The Music Career of Nipsey Hussle

Nipsey Hussle started out with the release of a series of mixtapes, with the first one being Slauson Boy Volume 1. In 2013, he began releasing music from his eight mixtape, Crenshaw. The mixtape was eventually released in October 2013 and contained guest appearances from artists such as Slim Thug, Sade and Skeme.

With the release of Crenshaw, Nipsey Hussle announced that his next work would be a complete studio album, rather than a mixtape. The album, titled Victory Lap was initially slated for release in 2014. The album was said to feature productions from The Futuristiks, 1500 or Nothin’ and DJ Mustard.

The album was eventually released at a much later date, in February 2018 and is already making waves in the music industry. It was released through All Money In No Money Out and Atlantic Records label and was the first major release by the hip hop star after a long series of mixtapes over thirteen years.

Victory Lap Successes

The debut album by Nipsey Hussle turned out to be a big success. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and sold an impressive 53,000 albums. It was also very positively received by critics with The Guardian’s Ian McQuaid noting that the rapper "effortlessly claims his place as crown prince of G-funk’s new school". He continued to praise the artist, saying that “his brags rasp as hoarse and righteous as a man in the middle of a three-day bender, riding beats built from oozing bass swagger and slinking Compton synths, as brash and gleeful as peak-era NWA.
