Comprised of the men and women who formerly served in the United States Military, New Directions Veterans Choir is one of the rising and famous a cappella groups in the country. New Directions Veterans Choir was founded by George Hill, who also served in United States Military and suffered through homelessness as well. Now presently he is serving New Directions as the director of the choir and he is also New Directions’ graduate. In addition to that he is also studying at the California State University Los Angeles for a degree in Computer Information Systems apart from working at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration as well. New Directions Veterans Choir is a part of New Directions Inc. that was founded as a nonprofit organization by John Keaveney along with Larry Williams and another veteran. Keaveney himself has seen a fair share of mental illness coupled with homelessness. He served as an infantry man during Vietnam War, and came back home with the habit of drug and substance abuse. After his arrival, Keaveney remained homeless for about eleven years and during that time he was incarcerated a number of times as well. Finally he was ordered by the court to be admitted to Veterans Administration program called New Direction. Even though New Direction was able to save Keaveney’s life, but the budget cuts led to closure of New Direction in 1988. This was the year when Keaveney along with Williams and another veteran, formed New Directions Inc. New Directions Inc. provides the veterans with a treatment for their mental illness or substance abuse as well as providing them with shelter and an honorable way of earning their living. Over the years, New Directions Inc. has admitted and treated hundreds of veterans, and the number has been growing ever since 1988.
 
New Directions Veterans Choir is an initiative taken by New Directions Inc. to help those men and women who served their country, and now they are in dire need of support to help them earn an honorable living. Apart from helping the veterans, the choir has also been entertaining masses ever since its inception. The choir took its act live on national television when they performed on America’s Got Talent that is broadcasted on NBC. Other than that, the choir also performed on E! Entertainment Television and NBC Nightly News. The choir was also featured on the Donny and Marie Show and also performed a the Democratic National Convention. Over the years, they have performed at more than a hundred venues nationwide, and the number of their events just keeps on growing.
