Mykki Blanco wrote a book of poetry titled From Silence of Duchamp Till The Noise of Boys, which was sold at LA’s OHWOW Gallery and chic magnet Opening Ceremony. She has appeared in the opening slots for big act like ARABMUZIL and Gang Gang Dance. Mykki continues being the busy bee who only recently released two new albums while performing many one-woman shows. Demand for her shows that have been scheduled into the summer come as no surprise given her enchanting albums’ tracks so far. Mykki Blanco tickets have been and continue to create quite the havoc among rap music fans, particularly those who enjoy that New York flavor in her songs.
Mykki Blanco first spun into the world of performance while still a teenager through the context of performance-art. Her actual roots are embedded in theatre since she acted as a child. According to her she would have really gotten kicks out of being in a punk band while growing up, but back it was more about what her friends wanted, which was for them to write their silly songs. They then performed these songs rather ‘half-heartedly’ as the artist puts it herself. It was only when she relocated to the big apple when she approached performing music with all seriousness and determination. In 2010, she realized how talented she was at portraying such a complex character while singing alongside.
Soon enough Mykki Blanco found herself writing extensively and playing around various spots in the city. In 2011, she published her very first book and when it came out, she received overwhelming attention from the media as well as the critics. Her initial music releases that she plans on calling Mykki Blanco and her Mutant Angels, contain songs the lyrics to which are based upon the poems she wrote for her book. During the time she was touring and playing works from her book, she found her persona growing more and more in a way that felt internal to her. The artist had not thought of this mode as a means of livelihood. During this time she was living both the sides of Mykki which is to say that she was exploring her new lifestyle and the opportunities it brought along as well as experimenting with cross-dressing on a daily basis. The summer of touring proved to be quite liberating and fun and allowed the artist to uncover all the success hidden ahead of her by merely combining her work from the book with the new found Mykki.
Today Michael David is recognized as Mykki Blanco, the artist performing as a woman who calls her alter ego a cross-dressing international It Girl. Her video for Kingpinning, she brought back an old personality we all known from Black Jew Prince that involves white contact lenses and gimp masks. Like her breakthrough single titled Wavvy, this one too was produced by Brenmar who really brings out Blanco’s bold and simultaneously laid-back flow with some brittle beats, rapid-fire drums and synths.
