Taalib Johnson known famously by his stage name of Musiq Soulchild is a soul and R&B singer and songwriter from the United States of America. His major musical genres comprise of a blend of soul, blues, contemporary R&B, fun, gospel, alternative, jazz, neo soul and hip hop.
 
Musiq Soulchild was born on the 16^th of September in 1977 making him 34 years old. He was raised in Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. He has actively been a part of the music industry since 2000 till the present day. Over the last twelve years he has garnered a massive fan following for him. The music recording labels that he is associated with are the Def Soul Recordings and Atlantic Records.
 
Musiq Soulchild is the oldest of his other nine siblings. From a very early age, he decided that he will be dropping out of high school and by the time he was 17 years old, he left home. It was during this time while he was away from home that he discovered his talents as a musician. He rapidly began building repute for himself by beat boxing for MC’s, scatting at many jazz clubs, using the free style technique on the open mic circuit and also performing live cappella on the streets of Philadelphia. While he was venturing into such things, the term Musiq was coined for him by his fans and onlookers. Later, he added “Soulchild” to his performing name. He did this, to honor the legacy of soul musicians such as James Brown, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, Patti LaBelle and Sly & the Family Stone, who were some of his greatest inspirations.
 
Apart from being a spectacular live onstage performer, Musiq Souldchild has been very successful in his career as a musician in just over a decade. He has received award nominations from BMI, BET, Soul Train, Moard, and ASCAP. Moreover, he has effectively had two of his albums recognized as platinum’s, two gold albums and has had seven super hit singles. He has received 11 Grammy Award nominations, also three for his album titles as Luvanmusiq that came out in 2007. He earned awards at the American Music Awards, BillbMTV and also NAACP.
 
In 2000, Musiq Soulchild released his debut album which was titled as Aiijuswanaseing. The lead single on this album was known as “Just Friends (Sunny)”. The second single on the album “Love” was such a hit that it was on the Billboard Hot 100 charts list for nearly 22 weeks. His second album came out in 2002 and was called Juslisen.  This album was premiered at the number one position on the Billboard charts and ultimately went on to being recognized as platinum by the RIAA. The most famous singles out of his second album were “Don’t Change” and “Half Crazy”. The following year in 2003, he released his third album, Soulstar. This album comprised of two famous songs “Who Knows” and “For the Night”.
 
After the release of his third album, Musiq Souldchild took a break for four years. In 2007, he released his fourth album titled as Luvanmusiq. The hit songs on this album were “Teach Me”, “B.U.D.D.Y” and “Make You Happy”. On the 2^nd of December in 2008, he released his fifth album, OnMyRadio. This album was greeted by his fans by a lot of praise and it was critically acclaimed as well. For the first time, Musiq was seen creating a fusion with the genres that he has been working with in his fifth album. On the 3^rd of May in 2011, he released his sixth and his latest album which is known as Musiqinthemajig. The first single of this album features Swizz Beatz and the single is called “Anything”.
