Music For Champions is a charity concert that aims to benefit the “T.J. Martell Foundation” and the “Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children”. It is reported to be an elaborate event that will not only feature musical performances, but also host an auction of many special items. The revenue generated from the proceedings is hoping to raise awareness for the work the “T.J Martell Foundation” and the “Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children” are doing together in cancer research. This year, Music For Champions tickets will be sold for the main attraction—the guest musical performers, the Rascal Flatts.
The first beneficiary of the Music for Champions event is the “Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children”. It was only established some twenty years ago as a community hospital in Florida. But in that time, it has risen from just a community institute to a well-known, internationally renowned hospital. It has also been ranked as one of the best hospitals for children in the country by World Report. The hospital is known to provide special attention to children who are critically ill, providing them individual care. The doctors are all specialized experts in their respective fields and come from all over the state. Since 1995, the hospital has been famously treating many different kinds of cancer. Hematology and pediatric oncology experts in the health care centre have been treating bone tumors, leukemia, blood disorders, central nervous system cancers, Hodgkin’s disease, hemophilia, lymphoma, and sickle cell disease. The doctors all go through continuous learning themselves, teaming up with researchers from all over the US who come to Florida and collectively study and develop treatments and medicine. “Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children” is the top hospital in the state that is so committed to contribute towards the innovation in cancer research. Research work is expensive and is largely run on the donations they receive; therefore, all proceedings from Music for Champions tickets will be spent on funding research.
The “Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children” has now joined the “T.J. Martell Foundation” to further broaden and improve their research endeavors. The foundation was found in 1975 and is also part of the Music For Champions event this year. It is considered as one of the largest foundations in the music industry that funds medical research on such a scale. They specialize in finding treatments for AIDS, leukemia and cancer amongst other diseases. They focus more on providing funds to research that is in its early stage and who are having trouble finding capital to begin. They thus help them develop innovative and more effective solutions for patients.
“T.J Martell Foundation” was formed when, in 1973, executive music producer Tony Martell watched his son, T.J. suffer from leukemia. T.J. asked his father to collect and donate $1 million to charity so other people would not suffer like he did. It was based on this promise that his father agreed to open a foundation in his name. T.J. died two years after its launch. A fundraising event was organized the same year, where $50,000 was collected. Today, the foundation has raised approximately $250 million from donations. Similarly money from the sale of Music For Champions charity event will also go onto to fund cancer, leukemia and AIDS research.
For the event itself, American country group, Rascal Flatts, have been lined up to perform. The band is already known for its volunteer and charity work. They are famously teamed up with “Nashville’s Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt”, with whom they have helped raise millions of dollars for medical research and causes. The band, consisting of Joe Don Rooney, Jay DeMarcus and Gary LeVox has agreed to headline this year’s “Arnold Palmer Invitational”. Another supporting musical act has yet to be announced.
This is not the first time that the trio would be part of a benefit event. They are also known for being a part of the “Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet” and the “Jason Foundation”. The latter organization works to create awareness on suicide prevention. The Rascal Flatts are also set to accept the “2012 Artist Humanitarian Award”.
The band is currently on their headlining tour, “Thaw Out”, with opening acts, Hunter Hayes and Sara Evans. They have announced even more tour dates for this year. They will be taking some time off the road to perform at the Music For Champions event. With their influence in the country music community and in the popular music industry at large, the event is hoping to attract more attention and subsequently create more awareness for their cause.
