Cameroon has given some very influential musicians/singers recently. Manu Dibango, Richard Bona, Etienne M’Bappe and Armand Sabbal Lecco are some of the prominent names. With his incredibly dynamic, powerful and funky music he has inspired many new artists.

Valdo’s attractive vocals, electronic loops, buzzing harmonica and acoustic guitar have always created magic. He began learning music himself at the age of eight as he taught himself to play a plasterboard guitar with fishing wire strings. In his adolescent years, he started writing songs and composing music. All his efforts were linked to his ethnic background and resulted in creating his typical musical style, the Sawa Blues. He also became deeply inspired by Fela Kuti and his signature Afrobeat rhythms. Teamed with the popular urban style club music Makoss, Muntu ’s music became an exceptional rendition of these sound, in the Sawa blues style.

While still at Douala MuntuValdo went to Yaounde University Orchestra after doing a Law degree. He came out as an artist who polished himself after joining and playing for the Eko Roosevelt’s band. Three years later he formed his own band Mulema; the band started performing live and also began working on studio albums. In 2000, Valdo’s band was sponsored to go on a national tour, which took the band to ten cities of Cameroon. One of the recordings from a concert at this tour brought Valdo’s music to a French producer who pushed him to relocate to France and make a future in music there.

In 2001 Valdo came to Paris where he met and collaborated with young musicians in live gigs and jam sessions. He also performed solo and with his band at concerts in places like Place Chatelet and Rue Oberkampf. In 2004 Valdo got a chance to compile his studio effort and release them as his compilation Auto-prod Jazz . It was produced by LA FNAC which pushed Valdo to produce his next album himself. The next year, the artist came up with Gods and Devils - Moiye Na Muititi. The album was an international hit and called Valdo to perform across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

While Muntu Valdo toured he got a chance to at many festivals in cities like New Castle, London, Singapore. This tour further inspired him to make music outside Paris. In 2008, Valdo made his second career move and shifted to the UK to live and work in London. After moving, he started composing and recording more music. He also kept performing live; in 2010 he became a part of the Ladysmith Black Mambazo UK tour.
