The company that has been invited to perform at these venues has been perfecting the art of dance and creating illusions since the past thirty years now. It was founded by one of America’s most innovative choreographers, Moses Pendleton in 1980. MOMIX has held critically appreciated performances throughout the world from the United States to Japan, Canada to Spain and Russia to Singapore.
Based in Washington, Pendleton hasn’t only driven his company towards stage performances but has also showcased the talent in television and film as well. The debut IMAX film, MOMIX worked in was “Imagine” in 2001, after which the company was seen working in another feature film in 2004, called “White Widow”.
The dancers were also invited to perform on the PBS television reality series, “Dance in America” and were also seen on television networks such as the Italian RAI television and France’s Antenne II. The repertory that consists of original works such as Orbit, Baseball, Passion, Opus Cactus, Lunar Sea, ReMIX and the most recent production Botanica, have been broadcasted to over fifty countries.
The organization has also been invited by corporations, such as Mercedes Benz and Fiat to perform at special events. These include events such as the hundredth anniversary of Fiat that was held in Italy and the International Auto Show held by Mercedes Benz in Frankfurt. The MOMIX has won the admiration of its audiences for over thirty years now.
It continues to impress everyone with its illusionist dancers and their flexible body movements, highlighting nature’s most appreciable resources. These spellbinding performances create an ethereal and magical world on stage, with the help of enthralling, eclectic scores, mesmerizing all those who set their eyes on it.
The forthcoming production, named “Botanica” creates the illusion of earth changing form of life, following the seasonal rhythms. This is done creating on stage a simple thing as the setting of the sun and the passing of the day. This production uses elaborate costumes, puppetry and set designs that have been created from scratch by none other than, Michael Curry.
Curry is a production designer, who has worked with famous organizations such as Disney, Cirque du Soleil and the Metropolitan Opera. With Pendleton’s playful and mythic imagination, Botanica presents a wonderful journey through the four seasons of nature. With the use of multimedia Pendleton has outdone himself by presenting a uniquely ambitious productive effort.
Working as a ground breaking director and choreographer for over forty years now, Moses Pendleton is a world renowned entertainer. Before turning his vision into reality by creating MOMIX, Pendleton was one of the founding members of the Pilobolus Dance Theatre, during the seventies. Growing up in the area of Northern Vermont, Pendleton started learning dance after graduating from Dartmouth College. In 1971, he started touring throughout America with Pilobolus, a dance company that was formed during the classes that he took in Dartmouth.
Gaining instant success, the Pilobolus Dance Theatre made its way to Broadway, performing internationally with donations being presented by Pierre Cardin. Working with this company for over a decade, Pendleton finally moved away, pursuing his dreams of creating one of the most innovative and inventive dance organizations the world had seen.
For his contributions to dance over the years, Pendleton was presented with a Gold Medal in 1994, at the Verona Festival. He has also received several other prestigious honors. These include awards such as the “Governor’s Award” given by Connecticut Commission of the Arts in 1998, the “Positano Choreographic Award” presented in 1999, the “American Choreography Award” received in 2002 and the “Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts” presented by the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2010.
