Molotov band was founded in Mexico City in 1995. The initial lineup included drummer Ivan Jared on drums, Javier de la Cueva on electric guitar, Miguel Angel Preciado Huidos on bass guitar and Ismael Tito de Garay on vocals and electric guitar. After performing together for sometime Javeier de la Cuva left the band and was replaced by Paco Ayala Gonzalez. Ivan Jared was replaced by Randall El Gringo Ebright on drums. Randal Ebright is the only US born member of Molotov. The band during its career has been associated with a number of recording labels like MCA International, Universal Music Latino, Machete Music and Polygram Latino Records. The band is managed by a famous company namely OCESA Sei Track.
Molotov initially kicked off as a hip hop band and immediately earned fame due to the fact that it was among the very first bands that performed hip hop in Spanish. The initial recognition came to the band when they got a chance to open for more established bands like rock group from Jalisco, Mexico named La Lupita and the famous hard rock group from Spain Heroes del Silenceo. The name of the album was inspired from another album Donde Jugaran los Ninos that was released by the renowned Mexican rock group Mana. In the start the band was almost banned from Mexico for extensively using explicit lyrics and discussing politics. In 1998 the group got a chance to record a track for the album Volca. This album was a tribute to the famous Mexican singer Jose Jose.
In the year 1998 the band released a remix album called Molomix that included remix tracks like "Voto Latino Remix," "Rap Soda Bohemia," "Puto Gimme the Power" and "Que no te haga bobo jacobo." Molotov then changed its music style towards more heavy music. In 1998 Apocalypshit went in music stores, this album was primarily rap metal and nu metal. It included tracks like "Nero," "Polkas Plabras," "No Manches Mi Vida," "Let it Roll," "Step Off" and "Kuleka’s Choice." Since then the band has released three more studio albums Dance and Dense Danso, Con Todo Respeto and Enternamiente. The latest studio album by Molotov is Enternamiente that was released in 2007. Since then the band has only released one live album in 2012 titled Desde Rusia con Amor.
The group has toured Russia as well as a number of countries in Europe. The band was a part of the Watcha Tour 2000 in which it performed with other groups like Café Tacuba, A.N.I.M.A.L, Aterciopelados and Los Enanitos Verdes. The biggest hit by the band till date is the single "Frijolero" that was included in the album Dance and Dense Danso. This song won the band a Latin Grammy Award in the category for Best Music Video.
