The prestigious Julliard School was the training ground for Misha and Cipa Ditcher. They met each other while pursuing formal music training at the Rosina Lhevinne. They tied a knot a year before their graduation and soon formed the duo. They hardly taken some time off after completing school and embarked on their first worldwide concert tour together. With hardly any commercial experience in hand they both performed exceptionally well in stage and recreated master pieces that won them a phenomenal following in a very short period of time.
This legendary couple became stars of many hearts and made their first appearance formally as a duo in the Hollywood Bowl (1972). It was so well received that, Misha and Cipa Dichter became a permanent feature of many international orchestras very soon. The couple earned great recognition for reviving the art and technique of two-piano and piano-four-hand. Inspired by well renowned maestros they duo began playing some of the most challenging compositions as repertoires. The worldwide premiers of Concerto of Robert Starer and Symphony No.13's (Babi Yar) by Shostakovic featured these works for which the duo earned both critical and public acclaim.
Misha Ditcher comes from a polish family that originally lived in China and migrated to Los Angeles where he grew up, listening to a wide range of music. From an initial interest in fine arts, Misha moved more and more towards music. His interests became inclined towards playing piano at a very early age. Getting into Julliard and later triumphing at the 1996 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, helped Misha understand his potential.
Misha explored this potential and his skill as a pianist based on his polish musical heritage. He also got influenced by the most celebrated pianistic traditions of maestros Rosina Lhevinne and Aube Tzerko. These names together formed a dual legacy that became a permanent feature of Misha’s solos, recitals and collaborations. His performances center on grand compositions from legends like Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. Misha has also performed on compositions from central German-Viennese collected works by names like Bach, Beethoven, Schubert and Moazart. Mozart collections presented by Misha earned him great popularity when he played them with orchestras all over the world.
Cipa Dichter like her husband has Polish-Russian roots and had musical inclinations since early childhood. Her first piano lessons started when she was six and in her pubesnt years she was seen performing with the local symphony orchestras. This mediocre start of Cipa’s professional career became bigger when she became active with the S.L.E Foundation's Women's Leadership Council. She landed at Julliard to pursue her insatiate desire of learning and creating classical music and that too with the piano.
Misha and Cipa’s first studio recording was released by Musical Heritage Society in 2003. The recording was a three CD album; it included the duo's work on the four hands (Mozart’s work) and four-hand arrangements (Busoni’s and Grieg’s work). The album received rave reviews from numerous critics and fans too. The Music Web International tagged it the 'Recording of the Year' for the year 2005.
Over the years, the duo has become very active on their live performance front. They have played in concerts all over North American, especially in the major metropolis. Moreover, both have also been recognized as accomplished soloist and chamber musicians. The duo has a very special relationship with their fans and following. They are more blood and fresh than celebrated artists who happen to paly top symphonies the most beautiful way.
Misha and Cipa Ditcher have performed in some of the most prestigious venues and with some of the best orchestras across the United States. The two have made tours worldwide, and have been particularly well received in France, Germany, Holland, Spain and Switzerland.
