Ministry is one of the greatest industrial metal bands to have ever come out of America, a band whose music has enchanted millions all over the world. This spectacular industrial metal outfit hails from the city of Chicago within the amazing US state of Illinois and has been active since 1981, except for a short gap between 2008 and 2011. Ministry first started out as a Synthpop and EBM band, playing some of the best music in their genre. Later on, the band adopted a heavier band with its music referred to as industrial metal and at times even thrash metal. In fact, Ministry is widely considered as one of the greatest bands in the metal scene of the eighties, a status it still maintains today with its popularity increasing day by day. This superb one in a million band has been associated with many acts including Revolting Cocks, 1000 Homo DJs, Lard, PTP, Lead Into Gold, Acid Horse, Pailhead, Slipknot, Killing Joke and Fear Factory. Ministry can be easily seen live at several American venues through the use of Ministry Tickets.
Today, Ministry’s lineup includes Al Jourgensen on vocals and playing the guitar, bass and keyboards, Mike Scaccia playing the guitar and bass, Tommy Victor also playing guitar and bass, John Bechdel playing keyboards, Tony Campos on bass and Aaron Rossi as the drummer. Ministry was founded back in 1981 by its lead vocalist, Al Jourgensen and started out as a synthpop band, playing this style of music in the early eighties. Later on, Ministry adopted an industrial metal style and soon became a very successful mainstream band. One of the best albums by Ministry was released in 1992 and was titled as Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs with the band also going on tour as part of the Lollapalooza music festival.
From then on, Ministry was active until 2008; however, in 2011, Ministry announced a spectacular reunion with the first performance by Ministry set to take place at the next Wacken Open Air Festival. The band has also announced a new album, titled as Relapse and slated for a 2012 release. Al Jourgensen went through a number of bands before starting Ministry; his first band was Special Affect and was followed by the Silly Charmichaels. After this, Ministry was formed and the first album released by the band featured a new wave synthpop sound that was melodic and more stylish as compared to the band’s later music. With Sympathy was Ministry’s first release, an LP released through Arista Records. This album was highly successful and ranked high on the Billboard 200 music charts.
The next Ministry album was released in 1986 and titled as Twitch. As with the first release, it was also an LP and was released through Sire Records. It feature dance electronic music that was more aggressive and harsher than the first LP. New lineup changes included Paul Barker and William Rieflin from The Blackouts. This was followed by yet another LP, released in 1988 and titled as The Land of Rape and Honey. This album was yet another phenomenal Ministry release and this time featured a lot of instrumental pieces that were then considered unconventional; Ministry used synthesizers, tape loops, keyboards, jackhammering drum machines, movie dialogue, unorthodox electronic processing, and heavy distorted bass and electric guitar sounds. The album spawned hit singles such as Flashback and Stigmata, each with its own music video and was followed by a superb and wildly famous tour.
From then on, it was an uphill journey for Ministry. In 1989, the band released The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste and 1992’s Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs, a metal release that was a massive hit on the charts and on MTV with its music video. The latest albums by Ministry are 2007’s The Last Sucker as well as two albums featuring remixes and covers; 2008’s Cover Up and 2010’s Undercover.
