MGMT is an amazingly talented due comprised of Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. The band was created when they were freshmen at Wesleyan University in 2002.The two have stated it wasn't actually their intent to start a band, they just liked sharing music with one another. Little did they know that by the time they graduated college they'd be selling MGMT tickets like crazy. They originally intended to name their band, The Management, but changed the name to MGMT when they discovered there was already a band called The Management. While in college, Goldwasser and VanWyngarden would stage loud electronic sound demonstrations to annoy their fellow students. They have even admitted that one of their initial goals when making music was to make audiences hate their music. This plan backfired for Goldwasser and VanWyngarden because try as they might to annoy audiences, the music they made was so amazing, people started liking their music almost on accident. In spite of their initial intent to push audiences away, the band soon found no matter what they created they still had a fan base eager for MGMT tickets. In fact, early fans were so impressed with the music of MGMT they formed an indie music label, Cantora Records, so the band could release their first recordings. The album, Time To Pretend, features an early version of MGMT's most well known song, Kids.
After graduating from Wesleyan University in 2005 MGMT signed with Columbia Records. Their first album with Columbia Records, Oracular Spectacular, featured a remake of the song Kids and in no time at all the song gained worldwide attention and had fans rushing to buy MGMT tickets. The song Kids was nominated for a Grammy in 2010 for the category Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. Audiences have been raving about the eclectic electro rock duo and their ability to crank out award winning hits. MGMT tickets have sold through the roof due to fantastic songs such as Kids Time to Pretend, and Flash Delirium. Their song Electrical Feel (Justice remix) took home a Grammy in 2009 for the category of Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
Music fans and audiences aren't the only ones to notice the talent of MGMT. Well known and respected musicians were also taking notice of the band. Many famous artists have asked Goldwasser and VanWyngarden to be the opening act for their tours and appearances. The band was thrilled at the opportunity to work with some of the musicians who had inspired them, and grateful for the opportunity to promote MGMT tickets at the same time. Touring with such notables as: Of Montreal, M.I.A., Radiohead, and Beck to name a few artists. They have also gained international notoriety, performing all over England, Australia, Canada, and Germany to name a few. If the amount of MGMT tickets sold is any indication, it would seem European fans love the group almost as much as Americans.
With MGMT tickets selling like wild, and their songs winning multiple awards, Goldwasser and VanWyngarden can only move up from here. In April 2010 MGMT released the album, Congratulations, and began their latest tour. This up and coming band has skyrocketed in the five short years they have been together. Critics are hailing MGMT as one of the must see band of 2010, and fans are in abundance, evidenced through the numerous amount of MGMT tickets sold. The duo has now expanded into a full fledged band with guitars, bass, drums, and of course the synthesizers and other enhancements that fans have come to know and love. This is truly a great band worth seeing live in concert, MGMT tickets would be a worthwhile buy.
