The group was formed back in 1983 after Dave Mustaine, the front man of the group, formed Megadeth along with the bassist David Ellefson. Prior to that, Mustaine played along with Metallica after it was formed in 1981. In 1984 the group recorded its demo tape which comprised of three songs and soon after, scored a record deal with Combat Records based in New York City. After signing the deal, the group started working on its debut album called Killing is My Business… and Business is Good! The record was produced by the band itself, and it garnered positive response from most of the critics. The following year, the group embarked on a concert tour in support of its debut album selling Megadeth tickets all across Canada and United States.
But it wasn’t until the release of group’s second studio album that it made its commercial and critical breakthrough. Titled Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying?, the album sold well over a million copies in United States. The album was also group’s first studio release following its move to a major record label, Capitol Records. To date, the album is considered to be one of the major contributions to the thrash metal genre. The album featured hit songs like Wake Up Dead, Devil’s Island and Peace Sells. Songs from the album are still performed by the band frequently on its live concerts. The video for Peace Sells also became the band’s first ever music video. The song is also ranked at the #11 spot on 40 Greatest Metal Songs by VH1. Following its success, the group then embarked on a several concert tours all across the nation. Megadeth went on its first ever international tour following the release of So Far, So Good… So What!. The group also performed at the Monsters of Rock festival that was held in UK at the Castle Donington. After its performance before more than 100,000 people in attendance, the band was soon added to the lineup of Monsters of Rock European tour but was later dropped out.
The front man of the group, Mustaine, also laid foundation to a thrash metal concert tour in the mid of 2005, in which the group headlined along with other acts like Life of Agony, Dillinger Escape Plan, Fear Factory, Life of Agony, Dream Theater and several more. The tour returned for its second edition in 2006 then another one in 2007. On both of these editions, the tour also went to Australia apart from touring in North America.
