The diva celebrates happiness with her new and successful album, You Are Not Alone. The textured and intimate production features the iconic artist at her best - fervent and powerful. This album blends traditional gospel songs with two new numbers penned by Tweedy for Mavis. The record also includes her unique interpretations of music tracks by Randy Newman, Little Milton, Rev. Gary Davis, Allen Toussaint, Pops Staples and John Fogerty. The album features the touring band of Mavis as well, that travelled with her in the last three years. The touring artists include Jeff Turmes, Rick Holmstrom, Stephen Hodges, Donny Gerrard and Jeff Tweedy. With pop songs and Mavis’ voice, guitar playing and singing, the Staples changed from extremely popular gospel singers to the most influential and spectacular spirituality-based group in the country. By mid 60s The Staple Singers got inspired by the close friendship between Martin Luther King, Jr. and Pops, turned out to be the civil rights movements’ musical and spiritual voices. They covered modern pop hits conveying the positive messages, including "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" by Bob Dylan. With songs like "When Will We Be Paid?" and "Long Walk to D.C", the Staples focused on and attracted a large number of young people. The Staples hit the Top 40 quite a number of times from 1971 to 1975, including two number one singles, "Let's Do It Again" and "I’ll Take You There. Throughout her career, Mavis has starred in movies such as The Last Waltz, New York Undercover, Graffiti Bridge and also made appearances in The Cosby Show and The Psychiatrist.
