American comedian, film producer, film director, screenwriter and actor Martin Lawrence was born on April 16, 1965 at Frankfurt, Germany. His full name is Martin Fitzgerald Lawrence, with Martin inspired from Martin Luther King, Jr. and Fitzgerald from John Fitzgerald Kennedy, former president of the United States. Martin was interested in boxing as a sport in his teenage life while studying at the prestigious Thomas G. Pullen School of Creative and Performing Arts at Landover, Maryland. He also took education in arts and humanities at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Friendly High School and Fairmont Heights High School.
 
While performing occasionally at local venues near his home and college, Martin believed in his potential as a comedian and decided to pursue a professional career in this field. He shifted to Los Angeles and after some initial struggle managed to find a place at Kings Wood Comedy Club. His performance at the club proved to be an opportunity for him to reach a bigger audience, and another popular TV show Star Search invited him. His performance was highly appreciated by the audience and he made his way to the finals. Although he could not win the finals, the show provided him the recognition that was necessary for his career to take off in the United States.

His talent was spotted by people at Columbia TriStar Television, who decided to give Martin a chance to prove himself as a true artist in the role of Maurice at a television sitcom titled What’s Happening Now! Afterwards, there were smaller roles in different movies that Martin performed before getting a major role in movie titled Do The Right Thing and later in House Party. He made a good use of these opportunities to have his acting skills established among critics, resulting in his selection as a host for Def Comedy Jam by Russel Simmons on the channel HBO. Martin Lawrence, while hosting Def Comedy Jam, also started his own series on Fox TV channel titled Martin. Martin hosted only one episode of Saturday Night Live, and owing to some irresponsible statements that he made in the show he was banned from Saturday Night Live forever.

Wild Hogs and Big Momma’s House 2 were two more of the super hit movies that Martin enjoyed in recent years.
 
In his personal life, Martin has had some unfortunate incidents, including his arrests at various occasions, mostly for carrying guns and arms. He also had severe health problems in 1999 due to heat exhaustion, and even remained in coma and on life support for over 3 days before getting better.
