Julius Caesar’s famous Latin phrase Veni, vidi, vici holds true for this Keanu Reeves look alike. Although born centuries apart and it seems on different planets, Julius Caesar and Mark Fischbach literally came, saw and conquered. While Caesar was boasting his war victories, the phrase holds true for Fischbach in the context of YouTube, his channel and its over 17 million subscribers. If you’re into Let’s Play videos, especially action and survival horror video games, then Fischbach’s Markiplier GAME channel will be most likely your favorite YouTube channel already. Known to the YouTube community as Markiplier, Fischbach will soon be in your town. You can now see him in person with Markiplier tickets as he tours the country.
Markiplier has also appeared on television and web series as himself. In 2015, he did a movie Smosh: The Movie, in which he played himself. In addition, he is also a philanthropist who was given Celebrity of The Year Award in 2016 by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
From Mark Edward Fischbach to Markiplier
Born Mark Edward Fischbach in June 1989 in Honolulu to a military officer and his Korean-American wife, Fischbach was raised in Cincinnati, where his family moved after his birth. He has a brother, Jason Thomas Fischbach, who is also a techie.
After graduating high school, Markiplier enrolled in the University of Cincinnati to become a biomedical engineer. However, his heart was somewhere else. So, to pursue his dreams, he dropped out to pursue his career on YouTube.
The YouTube Invasion
May 26, 2012, was the day when Fischbach logged onto YouTube and created a channel under the name Markiplier. His first series was on the video game Amnesia: The Dark Descent. After uploading playthrough videos of several other games, YouTube banned Markiplier’s AdSense account (a source for revenue generation). Markiplier protested, as his account had started to gather attention from YouTubers and even filed an appeal, but it was turned down by YouTube. As last resort, he created another (his current channel) account dubbed MarkiplierGAME.
Meteoric Rise & Late Night Celebrity
By 2014, his account had been listed on New Media Rockstars Top 100 Channels. The same year, Fischbach moved to Los Angeles to be closer to other YouTubers and the YouTube Space. By this time, Fischbach had become a YouTube celebrity, but when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in September 2014, he became a household celebrity overnight.
What had happened was that Kimmel had made jokes about YouTube and Let’s Play videos and drew heat from YouTubers. To placate them, he invited Fischbach and another YouTuber Jenna Mae on his show. A year later, Fischbach had already been declared one of the twenty most influential celebrities among teenagers.
The Secret behind Success – Is it Wilford Warfstache?
Cursing, screaming, yelling and sometimes even crying seems to have made Fischbach such a big YouTube personality. The secret behind his success seem to be real time reactions, where profanities are not censored.
But what about Wilford Warfstache? Wilford Warfstache is Fischbach’s alter ego. He brands his channel with a pink mustache, and has even dyed his hair red, blue and pink.
Is there more to Fischbach then YouTube?
In addition to uploading Let’s Play videos, Fischbach also makes vlogs on inspirational topics, but mostly these vlogs are for communicating with other YouTubers. Outside of Youtube, Fischbach also keeps a notable presence in the real world.
He regularly attends conventions and meet his fans. He has also been involved in Make-A-Wish Foundation to meet his fans.
Moving away from the real world and going back to the virtual world, Fischbach also raises funds for a variety of charities. So, while he is playing games, he also raises funds for Best Friends Animal Society, Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. According to him, he and his viewers have collectively raised over $1 million.
Do you want to meet Markiplier?
If you’ve enjoyed Markiplier’s playthroughs of horror and indie games, then it’s time that you meet the genius behind this YouTube account. Fischbach will soon be in your town. With Markiplier tickets, you can meet Fischbach and ask him about how he made a career out of uploading videos on YouTube.
