A Child Prodigy
Born and raised in Baltimore, Mario figured out at a very early age what he wanted to do in life. In fact, he was just four years old when he declared in front of his family that he wanted to become a singer. Impressed by her little one’s determination and enthusiasm for music, Mario’s mother got him a karaoke machine.
Soon after, Mario became a member of a musical group at Milford Mill Academy where he learned to play the piano. This can be effectively considered as the beginning of his music career. Utilizing his skills on the keyboard, Mario created a number of songs and melodies which eventually caught the eye of music producer Troy Patterson who signed him at the age of 11.
Mario’s music teacher at Milford Mill Academy, the school he attended till 10th grade, was one of his earliest musical inspirations. Other influences include Brian McKnight, Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Joe and Usher. After impressing with his unique vocals and catchy sound during his early teen years, Mario was offered a record deal with J Records when he was only fourteen years old.
Mario’s first steps into the music industry came in 2001 with the soundtrack of the movie Dr. Dolittle 2. Subsequently, in 2002, he performed a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “You and I” at Clive Davis’s Grammy Awards party before starting work on his first album.
In 2002, Mario’s debut album hit the stores to great critical acclaim. Titled Mario, the album’s lead single “Just a Friend 2002” peaked at number 1 on different music charts. A cover of Biz Markie’s song, “Just a Friend 2002” turned out to be a monumental success and helped Mario get off to a great start in his mainstream music career. Other singles from the album included “Braid My Hair” and “C’mon.” The upcoming tour will feature all of Mario’s biggest hits, and that’s one big reason why you should buy your Mario tickets as soon as possible.
After the success of his debut album, Mario opted for a more mature sound on his second album. A number of big-name producers like Scott Storch and Lil’ John assisted him with the experimental sound. Titled Turning Point, Mario’s second album came out in 2004 and almost immediately surpassed the achievements of his debut offering. The hit single “Let Me Love You” stayed at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for nine straight weeks. And it wasn’t long before Turning Point earned platinum certification.
In 2007, Mario released his third album Go which he dedicated to his mother. It comprised of a number of collaborations with the likes of Timbaland, Scott Storch, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Janice Robinson, Ne-Yo and Jermaine Dupri.
The Baltimore, Maryland native went on to set up his own entertainment company by the name of “Soul Truth Entertainment.” Around the same time in 2009, album number 4 came out. Titled D.N.A, its lead single “Break Up” peaked at number 2 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Chart. In addition, it was ranked 14th on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Mario’s most successful single in five years. It was certified Gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), having shipped more than 500,000 units.
Other Ventures and Sensational Return
After the release of D.N.A, it would be nearly 10 years before Dancing Shadows would see the light of day, his fifth studio album. However, Mario didn’t exactly take a break from music. In fact, he kept releasing singles in this time while also working on other projects. These included acting roles in various films and television shows including Step Up in 2006 and the Hilary Swank-starrer Freedom Writers in 2007.
Mario was back with the much-awaited release of Dancing Shadows in September 2008.Lots of acclaim followed with the album debuting at number 1 on the iTunes R&B chart. And you can catch the celebrated artist enthralling the audience with his best numbers by getting your hands on some Mario tickets.
