Marc Broussard was born in 1982 in Carencro. He is the son of Ted Broussard, the acclaimed Boogie Kings guitarist who was also inducted in the Louisiana Hall of Fame. Broussard was destined to be a music man from the very start. He started his musical career in 2001 and became a part of a Christian band named Y. This band was short-lived and soon Broussard embarked on his solo career and released several independent efforts. His debut album came out in 2002 named Momentary Setback. At that time he was just 20 years old. The single "The Wanderer" a song about self-discovery was a hit. This album got encouraging reviews and led to his signing up with the Island Records. In 2004, Broussard’s first major album "Carencro" was released on Island Records.
The title ‘Carencro’ pays tribute to the Broussard’s hometown where he still resides. "Home" was the album’s first single. Receiving an airplay during its release and right after Hurricane Katrina, the song was sent to pop radio stations and it eventually reached the country radio. The music video of this song shows people stuck in a traffic jam and seems very appropriate to depict the effected people fleeing New Orleans at that time. The video was ultimately added to CMT. The other songs from this album included "Gavin’s Song;" "Where You Are" and "Come Around." It also included the re-worked version of "The Wanderer" which had appeared in his first album.
Broussard’s third album "S.O.S: Save Our Soul" came out in 2007 and consisted of cover songs. It was his first album that reached #96 on the Billboard 200. This way he graduated from Heatseekers chart which consists of the albums that have never reached Billboard 200. The same year, he signed up with the new label, Atlantic Records. The first release for this label was made in 2008 with the recording of Must Be the Water EP. "Keep Coming Back" was his third full-length studio album. The single "Hard Knocks" from the album was featured in the final episode of the Hard Knocks season of 2009 on HBO. His latest album "Marc Broussard" came out in 2011 and includes singles "Lucky" and "Only Everything" It reached #37 on the charts of Rock Albums and #102 on the Billboard 200.
Broussard’s music has been featured on several shows like Clash of the Choirs where "Home" was performed by Blake Shelton. This song was also performed by singer Kelly Clarkson on her live set list in 200-2007. His song "Must Be the Water" became the theme song of NBA All-Start Game in 2008. With his first successful single "Home," Broussard was catapulted into nationwide touring. So far, he has released four studio albums and was listed on Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks twice.
