Where did it all begin?
1980’s; Omaha, Nebraska: Chip Davis found little success as a solo artist, willing to sell an instrumental record. Labels at the time were interested in bands, which were more commercially viable. Davis abandoned the idea by 1984, and instead opened his own music label, “American Gramaphone”. Through this label, he began distributing the original album under the pretence of a band, Mannheim Steamroller. It fooled everyone, and since the music was exceptionally good, the album became a hit. Since then, Davis has dedicated a major chunk of his musical career to creating new Christmas tunes, preparing multiple bands with those tunes rehearsed, and putting up a number of Christmas shows across the US during holiday season. Suffices to say, it is going very well.
