Macklemore is not trying to be the next Eminem. The title of the album was well represented throughout the track lineup, with the respective lyrics introducing Macklemore's fans to his unique personal traits and the ups and downs in his life.
 
The Macklemore & Ryan Lewis partnership started in the aftermath of the former artist's bout with substance abuse. After cleaning up his act, Macklemore started working with DJ Ryan Lewis and their enduring association materialized in the form of The VS. EP in 2009 and was followed up by The VS. Redux the next year. However, this dynamic duo's power partnering took shape with Macklemore's sophomore studio offering The Heist in 2010. Released in October 2012, The Heist contained a multifaceted musical arrangement stemming from the symphonic synergy between Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. It shot straight to the top of both the US Rap as well as the Us R&B charts and even notched a peak position of 4 on Billboard 200. 
 
Macklemore has been actively performing since 2008 and has graced the stages of events such as the Sasquatch Music Festival and the Outside Lands Music Festival.
