Louis C K was born in 1967 and his first stage appearance was in 1984 at a club in Boston Massachusettes. The experience did not go well for him because he only had enough material for two minutes. Discouraged, Louis didn’t try a performance again until he got a chance to perform at one of the the Boston stand-up comedy shows. He moved to New York in 1989 and appeared on a number of TV shows including Comedy on the Road, MTV half hour Comedy Hour and came second in Star Search. In 1990 he came out with his first short film Ceaser’s Salad which was shown at The New Orleans Film and Video Festival, The Chicago Film Festival where he won the Silver Plaque Award. His second film Ice Cream was shown at Sundance Film Festival for which he got the Grand Prize at Aspen Shortfest and is often on air on BRAVO and IFC. Over the next few years he did stand-up shows all over the country before staring a TV career earning him four Emmy nominations and only a single win. He joined Conan O Brien Show in 1993 as a writer in the original writing staff for the next two years. Louis is the Conan O’ Brien Show’s first stand-up comedian to appear on one of America’s favorite shows. In 1995 Louis appeared on Late Show with David Letterman who was impressed with Louis’ works that he immediately hired him as a writer. The commitment was for three months only before Louis moved on to being the producer and Head Writer for NBC’s David Carvey Show.
In 1995 Louis C K married artist and painter Alix Bailey. The marriage ended in 2007. Louis has two daughters from the marriage and shares the joint custody with Alix. In 1997 he Louis C K made his first feature film Tomorrow Night which was shown at Sundance Film Festival, South by Southwest, Seattle Film Festival among others. The following year he did a number of stand-up shows besides joining back the Chris Rock Show for which he got another Emmy nomination. In 1996 he won an Emmy for the show. In PBS he was casted in PBS show named Short Cuts.
2000 saw Louis’ first movie Pootie Tang with a character that the artist had created on the Chris Rick Show. The movie got some good reviews. The same year he got more Emmy nominations for the Chris Rock Show as well as Canon O’Brien show.
In 2001 Louis C K came out with his first CD titled Louis C K Live in Houston and produced a DVD with nine of his short films. The same year he recorded his Half Hour Stand-up Comedy Special for Comedy Central Presents at Hudson Theater, New York and appeared for the first time NBC’s Tonight Show. 2002 saw his second appearance on the show and went to the Aspen Comedy Festival.
Louis C K was an immediate success at the Montreal Comedy Festival in 2003. Later that year he signed a deal with CBS and Warner Brothers for another sitcom Saint Louie which he wrote as well as produced with Bruce Helford and Bruce Ramussen. In 2005 he produced and acted in an HBO sitcom pilot and became the first multi-camera sitcom ever. In 2006 he starred in Louis C K: Shameless, his first Hour Standup Special. It was a huge success and started a tour in which Louis has been performing to sold out theaters all over the states.
In 2007 he acted in two films Diminished Capacity and Welcome Home Rosco Jenkins. The following year he acted in Ricky Gervais’s film This Side of the Truth. Louis C K, after seeing a number of ups and downs in his career – including cancelled TV shows, cancelled deals signed with big companies and nominations without winnings – has earned a name for himself in the stand-up comedy and can be easily counted among one of the most popular and most successful stand-up comedians in the country. His performances are hilarious and manage to leave the audience in fits of laughter every time he gets his grip on the microphone.
