Coming under the spotlight
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs entered the rock music scene in the 80s when the genre was being dominated by names like, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, AC/DC and Van Halen. They managed to win over the fans of rock music with their hits and slowly became one of the most influential bands in Latin music. Over the years, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs experienced many lineup changes but, Vicentico and Sr. Flavio remained the core members of the band.
It all began for Los Fabulosos Cadillacs when their debut studio album titled, ‘Bares y Fondas’ hit the shelves in 1986. Daniel Melingo served as the producer of the record. It gave three hit singles, Basta de Llamarme Asi, Silencio Hospital and Yo Quiero Morirme Aca. One year later, they came out with their second studio album, ‘Yo Te Avisé’ in 1987. It catapulted them to stardom and the record was awarded platinum certification in Argentina. The album featured ten songs on the track list and produced a single, Yo No Me Sentaria en Tu Mesa which is frequently played in Argentine soccer matches to this day. Los Fabulosos Cadillacs churned out two more studio albums before the start of the 90s, ‘El Ritmo Fondas’ and ‘El Satanico Dr. Cadillac’ in 1988 and 1989 respectively.
Reaching for the sky
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs kicked off the 90s by recording their fifth album, ‘Volumen 5.’ The album was released by Columbia Records and offered some great rock hits like, Los Olvidados, Electrasonic V and Caballo de Madera. After a gap of two years, the group put out its sixth album, ‘El León’ which was followed by, ‘Rey Azúcar.’ The latter brought them international fame and was produced by the members of Talking Heads, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth. ‘Rey Azúcar’ received great feedback from the critics and AllMusic gave it four stars out of five.
They were not done just yet and went on to spawn ‘Fabulosos Calavera’ in 1997 and concluded the decade by releasing ‘La Marcha del Golazo Solitario’ in 1999. The former record achieved gold level sales in Argentina and was praised by the critics.
After ‘La Marcha del Golazo Solitario’ came out, the band went on a long hiatus. They returned almost a decade later with their platinum selling record, ‘La Luz del Ritmo’ in 2008. The album collected positive reviews from the critics and featured a new version of their song, Padre Nuestro which featured in the video game, ‘FIFA 10.’ Their next record, ‘El Arte De La Elegancia De LFC’ repeated the success of, ‘La Marcha del Golazo Solitario’ and received three stars out of five from AllMusic.
Besides their studio albums, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs also released four compilation and three live records out of which, ‘Hola’ and ‘Chau’ was certified multi-platinum by the CAPIF.
Los Fabulosos recently released their most anticipated record, ‘La Salvación de Solo y Juan’ in 2016.
