Since he was a very little child, Ben Schneider had started taking interest in music; he would play his father’s acoustic guitar. Ben’s father wasn’t a musician but he had learnt to play a bit while he was away on ships in the navy. His father would usually bring out the guitar when the camp fire would be on in the area of Lake Huron. His dad would play the guitar and sing the songs that he liked and knew of.
Schneider had already learnt the basics before he joined his school orchestra to professionally train further. Soon, he learnt many other instruments that included both acoustic and electric. He also began to record some music on his four track cassette machine.
Ben Schneider studied art when he was in college and lived in New York and France. He then moved to LA in the year 2005 so he could study art further and make a career out of it. Music was his hobby whether he carried it forward individually or with bands. His passion for music was strong and he often infused it with art projects over time. His visual art work that included landscapes, water and outdoor subjects in particular were very upfront inspirations for his music.
At one occasion, Schneider travelled to the Lake Huron in 2010 where he spent a week. Though he had written many songs in Los Angeles, he didn’t have a very clear idea of how to put them forward. It was at the Lake Huron where his memories of it made some of his work like the Into the Sun EP come to life. This track was also influenced by places like his many other songs. At one time Schneider had also travelled to interesting places like Mexico and Indonesia; these two places had sounds and visuals that also proved to be an influence. On his return to Lake Huron, these influences blended in. He then came up with the EP that he arranged an online release for and also distributed CD’s that had his full art work that he had been creating for it.
Lord Huron had its first live show in the year 2010. The band had earned quite a lot of fame and recognition through a post by Yours Truly who were San Francisco bloggers. The very same year, Schneider put out his second Extended Play that was titled Mighty. This was a four song EP that received instant attention from fans and critics. It even got an exceptional 8.0 rating from Pitchfork.
It was in the beginning of 2011 that Lord Huron came up with its very first music video for its single called The Stranger. The wintery video was one that was shot in the exact same place where Into the Sun was shot. The video was shot by Jacob Mendel. The band also toured massively across the country in 2011. Another album was released in 2012. This is a full length album called Lonesome Dreams.
