Lincoln Center is more commonly known as Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. This Center is located in the heart of Manhattan in New York City. Major funding was done by renowned billionaire and philanthropist John D Rockefeller Jr. through his Rockefellers Brothers Fund. Construction started in 1955 and it was completed 1969. In 1962 the center was partially opened with the completion of the Philharmonic Hall which was later renamed as Avery Fisher Hall. The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is spread over an area of 16.3 acres. The center underwent major expansion and renovation during late 90’s with design inputs from a number of famous architects and firms like Norman Foster, Diller & Scofidio, Olin Partnership, Owings & Merrill, Frank Gehry and Cooper Robertson & Partners.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts has a long list of venues on its premises. All these venues host a variety of different programs for the visitors. These are also home to a number of music societies as well as orchestras. Some of them are Alice Tully Hall which is home of the famous Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Vivian Beaumont Theater is a theater built in Broadway style, with a capacity for 1,080 fans this is the main theater in Lincoln Center. David Koch Theater is currently the home for New York City Ballet and in the past it was the home venue of New York City Opera. Metropolitan Opera House as the name implies is the home of the famous Metropolitan Opera that can seat up to 3,900 fans. The famous New York Philharmonic Orchestra has a home stage in the Avery Fisher Hall.

There is a tastefully decorated movie theater on Lincoln Center premises by the name of Walter Reade Theater. Another important place worth mentioning is the famous Julliard School which is primarily a performing arts conservatory. This School offers a number of degrees and diplomas like Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts, Diploma in Music, Doctor of Musical Arts, Diploma in Jazz studies and Opera studies. The Damrosch Park is a bowl style stage which is popular for all outdoor presentations. Jazz at Lincoln Center is also a huge facility which is a part of the center and it includes a jazz concert hall named Rose Theater, Irene Diamond Education Center for recording and rehearsing, The Allen Room amphitheater that is used for recording the famous Anderson Cooper talk show Anderson and a night club style venue for jazz performances by the name of Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola.
