Born and raised in California, Lil B started his career as a rapper when he was 16. During this time, he worked with The Pack which was a hip hop group based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The group released two mixtapes, which were very successful and they gained a lot of recognition quickly especially through their song ‘Vans’. The Rolling Stone Magazine ranked the song at number fifth in its list of best songs of 2006. Following the success of the song, the group released an EP titled ‘Skateboards 2 Scrapers’. It featured a remix version of ‘Vans’ performed by Mistah F.A.B and Too $hort, rappers from Bay Area. The Pack came up with their first album in 2007 titled ‘Based Boys’. Lil B’s most recent album with The Pack hit the shelves in 2010 and is titled ‘Wolfpack Party’. He has released numerous mixtapes from 2007 to 2013. His latest mixtape is titled ‘Pretty Yong Thug’.
Lil B promoted his music on social media and earned recognition as a solo artist. So far the artist has created more than 155 pages on MySpace. As of July 2010, Lil B has recorded more than 1,500 singles, with ‘Like a Martian’, ‘Pretty Bitch’, ‘Wonton Soup’ and ‘I’m God’ being some of the most popular. His multiple album deal with Amalgam Digital took place in 2010. He has so far released only one record through the label. Other records during that time were released as independent mixtapes or were available for download on ITunes and DatPiff under ‘BasedWorld Records’.
With Amalgam Digital, Lil B released ‘Angels Exodus’ in 2011. Prior to this he came up with two other albums titled ‘Vinyl’ and ‘Rain in England’, which he released through Weird Forest Records. According to the artist, his only official album was ‘Choices and Flowers’ which was released under ‘The BasedGod’ alias in 2012. He labeled all the other releases as mixtapes. In 2012 he released another record, ‘Tears 4 God’.
Lil B has quite frequently been involved in controversies. After the release of his fifth studio album ‘I’m Gay’, he received several death threats. Lil B later clarified that the term ‘gay’ refers to the original meaning which means happy. He also had a feud with fellow rapper Game in 2011 when Game labeled Lil B ‘as the wackiest rapper of all time’. However the two settled the issue on Twitter later. He was involved in a verbal war with Joey Bada$$, as both attached each other through songs.
He penned a book titled ‘Takin Over by Imposing the Positive!’ under his real name Brandon McCartney. It was published in 2009 by Kele Publishing and was a compilation of text messages and emails. The book is written in an email format so it appears as an extended email to the reader. His second book is in process and will come out soon.
Currently the artist is taking the rap world by storm through his live shows. To catch his upcoming performance, grab your Lil B tickets and let him energize you with his unconventional rap music and positive lyrics.
