Here, Black received the opportunity to work alongside Rusty Magee, composer and lyricist, and Rand Foerster, artistic director, to put together hundreds of memorable one-acts. The Czar of Rock and Roll was a play written by Black with collaboration from Rusty Magee. The play premiered in Alley Theater, Houston, in 1990.

Lewis Black's entry into the world of stand up comedy was accidental. As part of his theater company, he would open the show, acting as the Master of Ceremonies. His act became so popular and earned him so much appeal as a performer that he felt the urge to pursue stand up comedy.

January 2008, designated "Stand-Up Month" by Comedy Central, included Lewis Black's original HBO features in the line-up.
