Lauren Alaina: The Birth of a Star

Born in 1994, Lauren Alaina Kristine Suddeth fell in love with singing at the age of three. She soon began to perfect her vocals by performing in restaurants, church and family gatherings. Alaina then participated in the talent competition of the Southern Stars Pageant at the age of eight which she won. A year later, she was chosen to perform on the kids talent stage at Chattanooga's Riverbend Festival. She kept on performing there till the age of twelve.

In order to pursue music seriously, Lauren Alaina took a flight to Nashville for the first time in 2006. There, she began to build a local following by playing gigs at local bars. She later took part in the WinniSTAR youth talent contest and won that competition. Alaina also practiced her songwriting ability during this time and wrote many songs including, Set Me Free and Leaving.

In 2011, Alaina decided to audition for the tenth season of the American Idol. She delivered a breathtaking performance of Faith Hill’s song, Like We Never Loved at All which led to her selection on the show. She went all the way to the finals but unfortunately finished second as Scotty McCreery was declared the winner of the competition.

She Refuses to Slow Down

Even though, Lauren Alaina failed to win the American Idol, she didn’t let the defeat get to her. She kept going to make her dreams of becoming a country star a reality. She was soon signed by Mercury Nashville, Interscope Records and 19 Recordings. On May 25, 2011, she came out with her debut single, Like My Mother Does. The song brought her limited success as it reached twentieth spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Following the conclusion of American Idol, Alaina was invited as a musical guest on several talks shows including, ‘The Today Show,’ ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’ and ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.’ She also got the chance to host the CMT Music Awards with Scotty McCreery and also made her debut on the Grand Ole Opry on June 10, 2011.  In the same year, she was seen performing with Martina McBride at the CMA Music Festival.

The Debut Studio Album

It got favorable reviews from the critics and received a 72/100 rating from Metacritic. It was also supported by three singles out of which, she performed Georgia Preaches on a number of television shows including, ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and ‘Good Morning America.’

In addition to that, she also won the American Country Award in the category of, ‘New Artist of the Year.’

Road Less Travelled
