Famous banda group La Adictiva is quite popular among their native audiences in Mexico and is quickly establishing an international following as well. The band reached their height of popularity during the 2000’s and continues to produce amazing music to this day.
The popular banda ensemble hails from Mesillas Concordia, a town in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, that is recognized for its musical activity and richness. More than fifteen artists came together to form the band in the spring of 1990. The group was originally titled La Banda San Jose de Mesillas but changed their name to La Adictiva San Jose de Mesillas in 2008.
La Adictiva San Jose de Mesillas, or La Adictiva for short, spent their earlier years recording music with EMI International and soon earned a strong following among local fans.
The band predominantly plays banda music, though they incorporate a variety of elements from other Mexican traditions as well. Their sophisticated music often blends ranchera, alternative corridos and narcocorridos influences.
Early album releases
During the 2000’s the band was based in California. Entering uncharted territory, they signed with the independent label La Sierra Records and released their first album, Para Conquistarte. This was followed by a sophomore album in 2008. The group underwent a name change at this point but retained the same musical style.
Corridos Adictivos, released in 2009, was the debut album for the band under their new moniker. This also proved to be their last album for La Sierra. Later the same year they had signed with Sony Records.
Career under Sony Records and popular hits
The band’s initial efforts with Sony culminated in their debut album for the label in 2010. The album contained twelve tracks including the famous single “Te Amo Y Te Amo,” which peaked at number two on the Latin Airplay chart. Their sophomore album under the label was released in 2011 and the third album, Pasado Es Pasado, followed close on its heels the next year.
These albums contributed much to the band’s success. La Adictiva had become a chart and radio staple by this time, with several of their songs ranking among the leading Latin Airplay songs. They won the 2012 Latin Music Award for “New Latin Artist of the Year.”
The band complemented their success with touring acts, becoming a sensation in not just their native country but the United States as well. They are particularly popular in the West Coast and Southwest regions of the US.
2013 saw the group release their hit compilation album, Muchas Gracias. The title song from this album reached eleventh place on the Latin Regional Mexican Airplay chart. It was followed by their hit single “Un Fin en Culiacan” and later, another hit album, Disfrute Enganarate. The album spawned two notable singles that charted on various charts.
