Kristofferson’s effort was never entertained even when he tried forwarding his poetical pieces to celebrities like Johnny Cash, as a janitor at Columbia studios.  Finally, Kristofferson’s written single, Viet Nam Blues (1966) was scouted  and sung by Dave Dudley. The success of it as a song and appeal of its lyrics called for mainstream intervention. Epic Records, regarded work with great appreciation. Initiating with Golden Idol the single was under average success. Epic Records consistently pushed Kristofferson to record, His lyrics continued to bring hit numbers like Bottle to the Bottom, Your Time's Comin, Jody and the Kid, Darby's Castle and the monster hit Me and Bobby McGee. Great singers like Ray Stevens, Roger Miller, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Drusky enjoyed great fame and success based on Kris Kristofferson’s songwriting. The lyrical outreach and depth of words made is songs meaningful yet enjoyable in true musical sense.

Kris Kristofferson was becoming an integral part of hit songs of the late 60’s. He loved the appreciation and career boost helped him pen down more songs with heightened passion. The first two won Song of the Year Awards from the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association.  The last earned the prestigious Grammy in 1971. His songs topped charts and made number one, standing for weeks.

His second music album The Silver Tongued Devil and I (1971) mounted Kris Kristofferson as a commendable recording artist. Third in line Border Lord fortified his writing and music. Jesus Was a Capricorn. Kris Kristofferson’s fourth album featured the single Why Me, that made his commercially successful, but to a restrained fan following. In 1973 Full Moon bagged most hit singles and Grammy nominations compared to any of his albums. Spooky Lady’s Slideshow (1974) kept him in thin air. In the 80’s Kristofferson collaboration with Willie Nelson presented the great hit Music From the Song Writer. As a consequence creation of the famous group the Highwaymen with Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash happened. Self-titled debut and Highwaymen2 won hearts instantly. Kristofferson pursued writing and singing and winded up before the millennium with Repossessed and The Austin Sessions. After a long hiatus, Kristofferson made a comeback and offered new dimension to his songs; This Old Road (2007) and Closer to the Bone (2009) hit stands and generated positive reviews.

The Nashville Songwriters and Country Music Hall Of Fame have honored him. Similarly Johnny Mercer Award from Songwriters Hall Of Fame was awarded to him. He became BMI Icon at the BMI Country Awards (2008) for winning forty eight BMI Country and Pop Awards. Singing live brings an extra zing to Kristofferson song, which is simply loved by audiences.
