The band produced a hit music song Poor Little Doggie but discontinued its career as a band when the main singer started singing solo.

Followed by the breaking up of the band, Rogers started creating his own music. His first solo song was released by the name "That Crazy Feeling".  His solo career was not very successful so he joined another band called The Bobby Doyle Trio. The Bobby Doyle Trio was a jazz band. After the disbanding of The Bobby Doyle Trio, Rogers released another solo song Here's That Rainy Day but it didn’t work out too well so he joined another band The New Christy Minstrels as main lead. Kenny was also a guitar player for the band.

Disappointed with the low fame of The New Christy Minstrels, Kenny Rogers formed a new band in 1967 with fellow musicians Terry Williams, Mike Settle and Thelma Camacho. Their band was called “The First Edition”. In 1976, this band got disbanded and that was the start of a solo career of Kenny Rogers. During his solo career, he produced record selling movie sound tracks like Urban Cowboy, Convoy and The Big Lebowski. Other record hits of Kenny Rogers are Love Lifted Me, Runaway Girl, While The Feeling's Good, What's He Got That I Ain't Got, Coward of the County and Every Time Two Fools Collide.

Kenny Roger’s music has made a record of staying on the music charts for more than 200 solo weeks. Rogers is an expert player of guitar and harmonica. His diverse taste in music has made possible the launch of great music albums The Gambler and Kenny. In 2006 he released another album Water & Bridges. He has also produced a series of joint musical venture with Dottie West. Dottie West who was nicknamed Miss County Sunshine was also a country song writer and musician like Kenny Rogers. In partnership with Kenny Rogers, she produced musical hits like Every Time Two Fools Collide, All I Ever Need Is You and What Are We Doin' In Love. Their partnership remained from 1978 till 1983.  Rogers was a very close friend of Dottie West. He was a great admirer of the enthusiasm and emotion that couples her songs.  After her death in 1991, Rogers starred in a movie on the life of Dottie West, Big Dreams and Broken Hearts: The Dottie West Story.

Kenny Rogers is a philanthropist as well as a singer. He has acted in number of movies and shows including Kenny Rogers as The Gambler and the Muppet Show. He is a die hard fan of the professional ice hokey team Atlanta Thrashers and he regularly spends time at Philips Arena to see their matches.

He has achieved a life time achievement award for being in the music industry for six decades. USA Today and People conducted a survey in 1986 to check out fan follow ship of Kenney Rogers. According to that poll, he turned out to be Favorite Singer of All-Time.

His both albums won the title of 200 Most Influential Country Albums Ever in a fan poll conducted by About.com. The album released in 2006 won 5th rank on Billboard Country Albums list. Other awards won by Rogers are American Music Award, Grammy Award, Academy of Country Music Award and Country Music Association award.
