Formed in the year 1991 in Tampa, Florida by Richard Warner and Thomas Youngblood, Kamelot is believed to be one of the leading symphonic power metal bands in the United States. Up until the year 2012, the band has managed to release seven music videos, one live DVD, two live records and no less than ten studio albums. Most of their music is based on neoclassical metal, progressive metal, symphonic metal and power metal.
The band is made up of Tommy Karevik on lead vocals, Oliver Palotai on keyboards, Casey Grillo on drums, Sean Tibbetts on the bass guitar and Thomas Youngblood on backing vocals as well as guitars. Some former members of the band include David Pavlicko, who was part of the band from 1993 until 1998 as a keyboard player; Glenn Barry, who played bass guitar with the band from the year 1992 to 2009; Roy Khan, who was the lead vocalist of the group from 1998 until 2011; Richard Warner, who was part of the band from 1991 to 1997 as their drummer and Mark Vanderbilt, who was the original lead singer of the band from 1991 to 1998.
Kamelot got a recording contract from Noise Records three years after their formation. They released their debut album in the year 1995 under the title of Eternity. It went on to become a big hit and established the band as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry of the United States. They released their second album two years later, titled Dominion. This too received considerable success. In the year 1998, the band released their third studio album which was named Siege Perilous.
Following the release of their third record, the band went on an extensive tour of Europe. They performed at various places and managed to gain a large amount of fan following. After the end of the tour, the group flew back to Tampa to compose music for their fourth album, The Fourth Legacy. In the year 2000, the band went on another successful tour. They performed at places such as Spain, Greece, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. During this road trip, the band recorded for their first live album, The Expedition.
The fifth album, Karma was released only a few months after the release of their live album. This became a raging hit. Their sixth album followed in the year 2003 under the title of Epica. The group went on another tour of Europe in order to support this album. The first music video Kamelot made was in the year 2005 for the song March of Mephisto and The Haunting (Somewhere in Time).
One of the most popular albums of the band was their ninth record, which was titled Poetry for the Peasant. In this album, they explored a new sound and covered diverse topics. Some famous songs from this album are Thespian Drama, Hunter’s Season and The Great Pandemonium. The music video of the latter was released on the 1st of September, 2010. It has Owe Lingvall as its director. The band went on a promotional tour for the album on the 25th of March, 2010 and performed all over Europe.
