Born and raised in Iraq, Kadim Al Sahir is a poet, a singer and a composer who was named Iraq’s Goodwill Ambassador to the World by UNICEF. Since starting his musical journey in the 80s, Kadim has successfully established himself as one of the renowned singers in the Arab music scene. As a classical crossover singer, his music ranges from Arab classical to pop, from political to romantic ballads. In a career spanning over 30 years, Kadim Al Sahir has sold more than 100 million albums thus cementing his place among the veteran Arabic singers.

When Kadim was twelve he sold his bicycle to buy a guitar and since then has been playing the instrument. He also wrote a classical song of his own and learned oud, a rather complex instrument as compared to guitar. He got his musical education from the Baghdad Institute of Music at the age of 21. He received offers from radio and got a chance to work with some famous composers like Mohammed Abdel Wahab. Soon after that, he became a part of Baghdad Music Academy.

It wasn’t until 1987 that Kadim Al Sahir got an opportunity to show off his talent to the world. His first song video which he made with a friend’s help got aired on the Iraqi television. It was called "Ladghat El Hayya" which means a snake bite in English. Due to its controversial content, the song was threatened to be banned unless Kadim changed some of the lyrics.  His refusal resulted in its ban, which worked in the artist’s favor as it gained a lot of popularity after that. Following the scandal, Kadim Al Sahir was approached for live performances and concerts. He performed live all over the Persian Gulf and signed a contract with Kuwaiti label, Music Box and Al-Nazaer.

Kadim Al Sahir went on to  release a single "Obrat Al Shal" which became a hit song in Iraq. It was a pop song which was liked by the masses, making him a star within a few weeks after its release. In 1989, he toured the US for the first time. Having established himself as a pop artist, Kadim once again turned to classical genre with his magnum opus, "La Ya Sadiki" which gained an instant success in the Arab classical scene. An hour long song, Kadim successfully revitalized centuries old tradition by using magams, a kind of scale which had long been forgotten since decades.

In 1991, the onset of the Persian Gulf War forced Kadim to relocate to Jordan where he spent many years writing songs and poems. His lyrics focused on political scenario as well as some romantic songs, highlighting the emotions and tragedies of the people of Iraq. By 1998, he had released some ten albums.  Winner of numerous artistic awards, Kadim Al Sahir entertains his fans with a mesmerizing blend of Arabic poetry and sonorous vocals. Fans are advised not to miss any of his live concerts which they can enjoy at the cost of just a few Kadim Alsahir tickets
