Founded in Montreal, Quebec, the Just For Laughs festival performs every year in July at the same venue in Montreal. The founder of the festival was Gilbert Rozan, but the staff gradually expanded to include others as well, such as Andy Nulman, who joined the show in the year 1985 and many more as well. Nulman was the one who introduced Anglophone events to the show. With the advice of Andy Nulman, the style of the festival was changed, and it was expanded to a one month show. French speaking performers performed in the first half of the festival, while the English speaking ones performed in the second half. There were numerous acts that were added to the show, including non-verbal acts such as pantomimes, acrobatics and various more as well. Several international acts were also gradually made part of the festival, due to the growing popularity of the event.
 
The year of 1999 saw Andy Nulman's resignation from the show as a full time employ. However, some of the major acts of the festival were still directed by him, such as the Gala Shows at the St. Denis Theater, which was performed every year in July. He also remained a director on the Board of Directors of the show's parent organization. In July of the year 2010, Andy Nulam again came back to Just For Laughs as President of Festivals and Televisions after an absence of eleven years.

New Vaudevillians, street performers and various other acts, both visual and vocal perform every day during the festival throughout the entire city.
