Christopher Chandler is one of the names that has been a part of the June in Buffalo festival. Studying at the Eastman School of Music at present, Chandler has made his presence known at various festivals and conferences such as the Midwest Graduate Music Consortium Conference, the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, Florida State University New Music Festival, the Third Practice Electroacoustic Music Festival and the SEAMUS 2011 and 2012 conferences.
In his illustrious career he has won several awards. He bagged the second prize in ASCAP/SEAMUS Student Commission Competition; first prize in Austin Peay State University Young Composer’s Competition and has won the American Modern Ensemble’s Fifth Annual Composition Competition. A Sonnet of the Moon, Big Fish, Boston Night Prayer, Let It Begin with Me and Ballad of the Mean Angry Jazz Hater Monster are some of the famous works by the composer. Her work has been played by many renowned ensembles and musicians such as Ensemble SIGNAL, Fulcrum Point New Music Ensemble and the Spektral Quartet. Her music has also been performed at various festivals like REDCAT, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and the Bang on a Can Summer Festival. Cyrus Meurant from the University of Sydney was part of the 2012 June in Buffalo festival. He has an endless list of works to his credit; Two Pieces for flute, cello and piano, Melody for solo bassoon, Three pieces for solo piano and Charon for chamber ensemble being a few. Meurant’s recent collaboration with Lang Leav and Angela Little put him in the spotlight. In 2011 he made headlines as he performed at the Stone Gallery and Wollongong City Gallery.
Speaking of his achievements, the Australian composer won Frank Albert Prize for Music in 2002 followed by a Sarah Theresa Makinson Prize for Composition in 2003. He has worked for many orchestras and ensembles including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, The National Institute of Dramatic Art, The Australian Ballet, Sonic Art Ensemble, Sydney Symphony String Fellows and Australian Youth Orchestra.
Cyrus Meurant’s compositions have been performed at various festivals and universities such as the World Shakuhachi Festival, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Aurora Festival, Melbourne University, Monash University and the Australian National Univeristy. Meurant has also worked for Riley Lee, Andrew Smith, Zubin Kanga, Claire Edwardes and Jessica Azsodi. Davide Ianni from the Boston University has also been an integral part of the June in Buffalo festival in the past. Born in Italy, Ianni’s music has been played by performers from the US, Greece, Germany, Italy and Cyprus. He became part of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2005 and has been collaborating since then.
