His stint with Three 6 Mafia began in 1991 and they gained popularity for their Southern hip hop music. His first solo album came out in 2002 titled ‘Chronicles of the Juice Man’. This album was released by North North Records. Juicy J performed the track ‘Slob on my Knob’ and he is very well known for this. His second album was released in 2009 by Hypnotize Minds and Select-O-Hits. It was titled ‘Hustle Till I Die’. He bagged an Academy Award for the song ‘It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp’ in the Best Original Song category. During 2009 to 2011 Juicy J pursued a solo career and parted ways with Three 6 Mafia. He featured in numerous mixtapes of Wiz Khalifa, a popular name in the world of rap music.
‘Blue Dream & Lean’ is one of his numerous releases during this time. It was rumored that Juicy J would become a part of Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang imprint. During December 2011, the rumor was confirmed by Juicy J himself. He featured on Source Magazine’s May 2012 cover alongside his fellow Taylor Gang label mates. ‘Bandz a Make Her Dance’ lead single of Star Trippy (His third solo album) was released in 2012 by Juicy J. The song featured Lil Wayne and Chainz while it made it to #32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
He announced the release of Star Trippy when he was interviewed in November 2012. The album was released on July 2nd 2013, featuring Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Nas. Sonny Digital, Lex Luger, Mike WiLL Made It, Crazy Mike, Dr. Luke, and Juicy J who were all frequent collaborators so the album will feature production from them. ‘Show Out’ from the album was released on January 25 2013. The song featured Big Sean and Young Jeezy.
Before Juicy J and Three 6 Mafia, the rap industry was dominated by artists from the east and west coasts. The Three 6 Mafia, or Southern hip hop as it was known at that time, played a huge role in the prompting the Southern rap artists. Southern hip hop started underground in Memphis. They rose quite quickly and became prominent. They were later recognized by their international name Three 6 Mafia. Production partner DJ Paul helped the Three 6 Mafia a lot during the 90s. The solo albums released by the artists helped them gain individual recognition. Juicy J is known for using heavy beats along with dark symphonies which compliment the dark lyrics. He has been contributing compositions for albums that he himself produces. He has worked with his brother Project Pat along with Gangsta Boo, La Chat, and Tear da Club Up Thugs.
