After establishing herself as a piano prodigy, she shifted to the guitar and started singing folk songs. Her debut album “A Maid of Constant Sorrow” came out in 1961 on Elektra Records. Before she started writing songs, Collins sang the folk songs of other artists like Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs and Tom Paxton.

In her career spanning more than four decades, Collins has released a total of 27 studio albums, three cover albums, four live albums and more than 24 compilation albums. She has also appeared on The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. Recently, she started writing and has written two memoirs, “Trust Your Heart,” and “Sanity and Grace,” and a novel named “Shameless.” She has won a Grammy Award in1968 for the ‘Best Folk Performance or Folk Recording” and was also nominated for an Academy Award.
