Josh Ritter belongs to Moscow, Idaho, he was born in 1976. While he was a teenager he loved listening to music of seasoned country and rock singers like Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. He decided to take up music as his profession and purchased a guitar from K-Mart. During this time he also tried playing his father’s lute. Ritter even started to write down songs while he was in college studying neurology. He changed his subjects to music, by the time he graduated he had self-released an album titled Josh Ritter. After college he used to do odd jobs in the day and perform at local music gatherings known as open mic nights where he personally sold his studio album to raise some money. The album response was good so he gave up jobs and decided to work full time as a musician. Josh Ritter is a very gifted artist he is popular as a singer but he is a very good lyricist and can play instruments like lute, guitar, piano and flute.
Josh Ritter was spotted by the famous Irish indie rock band The Frames and the band invited him to travel to Ireland. He performed there for some time and then came back to the US to self-release his second studio album titled Golden Age Ratio that went in music stores in 2000. He went on to release the third studio album Hello Starling in 2003. This was first album by Ritter that was released by a recording company namely Signature Records. The album contained eleven tracks of folk genre and received extremely positive reviews from critics. Ritter then went on to release three more albums namely The Animal Years (2006), The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter (2007) and So Runs the World Away (2010). All these albums received positive response but failed to enter any major charts. The latest album by Josh Ritter is The Beast in its Tracks that was released in early 2013.
Apart from studio albums Ritter has got four live albums to his name and they are In The Dark, Live at the 9.30 Club, Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band and Josh Ritter; Live at the Record Exchange. Besides this he has released EP’s like Come & Find Me, Good Man, Girl in the War, To the Yet Unknowing World and Bringing in the Darlings. His popular singles include “Thin Blue Flame”, “Real Long Distance”, “Change of Time”, “Girl in the War”, “Bright Smile” and “Hello Starling”. Ritter’s single “Change of time” was loved by the fans and it was featured in the popular comedy drama series of NBC named Parenthood. This song was also featured in the trailer of the drama movie called The Other Woman starring Natalie Portman and Scott Cohen.
