His big break occurred on the 25th of March, 1970, when he was chosen to sing in an international music festival to represent Mexico. The festival was called II Festival de la Cancion Latina. His outstanding performance of the single El Triste cast tears in the eyes of the audience and he got a standing ovation. He stood third place in the festival.
