Jose Carreras Tickets
Jose Carreras is one of the most recognizable faces in the world of opera, having been one of the Three Tenors and having performed from the 1970s to date. Despite being diagnosed with Leukemia in 1987, Carreras did not abandon his career and saw it through right up to 2017. However, having turned seventy, Carreras has decided to call it quits with a two-year long farewell tour. Aptly titled “Jose Carreras: The Farewell Tour” it sees Carreras revisiting some of the most remarkable operatic settings in the country with his long discography. Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and many other iconic theaters have already hosted him for one last time. However, there are many Jose Carreras tickets still available for the end 2017 and 2018 shows.
About Jose Carreras
His original Catalan name is Josep Carreras and he is an opera singer who gained extensive fame in the early 1970s, when he was less than thirty years of age. Carreras was easy on the eyes with his movie star look and his vocals could shake the greatest of halls and theaters across the country. Carreras had already made a considerable name for himself and he was nowhere near to forgettable. Perhaps his most memorable performance was the inauguration of Franco Zeffirelli’s Puccini production of “La Bohème” at the Metropolitan Opera in 1981. This performance has sold millions of records and is still considered one of Carreras best works.
Battle with Leukemia
At the age of forty, in 1987, Carreras was diagnosed with Leukemia while preparing for a performance in France. A long battle ensued and Carreras made a recovery. Infact, fellow opera singers Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo played tribute to Carreras after his recovery at the 1990 World Cup finals at a concert in the Baths of Caracalla in Rome. The crossover phenomenon The Three Tenors was a result of this concert and Mr. Carreras has become a part of historic performances with these other two since. Carreras has also used his influence and finances to endorse the Josep Carreras Leukemia Foundation which helps in raising funds for leukemia patients who cannot afford the treatment.
Josep Carreras Leukemia Foundation
This Foundation essentially began as a fundraising source for leukemia patients undergoing treatment. However, it has come a long way since the 90s and has many more chapters to it as well. It provides therapy and group-relaxing sessions to individuals suffering from the disease and also rehabilitation programs from those who have recovered. Furthermore, it has an extensive research wing as well which funds and conducts research into leukemia treatment and treatment options. It is one of the leading organizations servicing cancer patients in the country.
Contributions to Opera
Jose Carreras focused solely on being the front-man for operatic performances, focusing solely on his vocals for all of these years. Even in instances where critics disagreed with some of his choices, he would stand by them in the name of artistic integrity. He was not as worried about fame or money as he was about the quality of his performance. In fact, there was this whole uproar when Carreras sang in “Aida” (1979) as critics said it would damage his voice early on in the career. The singer stands by his decision however, stating that; “If you don’t take this opportunity as an artist — I’m not talking about career, or business, but as an artist. To have this extreme joy of being not just in the first league, but at the top of the very first league — you have to take this risk.”
Why Bid Farewell?
Jose Carreras has recovered from Leukemia. However, having turned seventy in 2017, he has become aware of his mortality and wants to bow out of this glorious career at a high point. Therefore, he has developed a two-year program of shows the world over, including many halls in the US. He has performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall for the last time in the summer of 2017, for example. However, there are many more prestigious locations that have yet to feature him, Jose Carreras tickets for all of which are on sale. According to the singer, these shows will go all the way through 2018 and may carry forward to 2019 as well. However, after this tour is over, he will retire from the opera for good. Carreras has made key contributions to the opera and he will definitely make many more over the course of this tour. His fans will truly miss him after it is over.
