Jonathan Howsmon Davis was born on January 18, 1971, in Bakersfield, California. He had a rather disturbed childhood. His parents divorced when he was only three years old and his father remarried a woman who used to torture Davis physically. At school as well, Davis was a victim of bullying.
Korn – Formation and Success
Jonathan Davis began DJing under his alter-ego JDevil while he was still in high school. He did DJing for high school parties and mostly played genres such as Miami bass and New York Freestyle. The owner of Underground Chicken Sounds, Jeff Creath allowed Davis to live in his garage which laid the foundations for the formation of Korn. The newly founded band soon began playing gigs and was noticed during one of its performances at Huntington Beach in the year 1993.
Jonathan Davis’ first album with Korn was released in 1994. It revolved around the theme of child abuse and drugs – something Jonathan had experienced in the past himself. The record hit the 72nd position on the Billboard 200.
Between 1996 and 1999, Korn treated the fans to studio albums including Life is Peachy, Follow the Leader and Issues. The band’s fifth studio effort Untouchables hit the shelves in 2002 and was an immediate success. Its single Here to Stay won Korn a Grammy Award. Korn followed up the success of Untouchables with Take a look in the Mirror in 2003. The record ranked 284 on The 500 greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All-Time list by Hard Rock magazine.
In 2005, Korn released their seventh studio record, See You on the Other Side. Released on Virgin Records, it was their first album without guitarist Brian Welch and the last one with drummer David Silveria. It sold over 220,000 copies in its opening week and hit the third spot on the Billboard 200.
Korn’s 2007 album was intentionally left without a title for David wanted the fans to call it whatever they wanted. The strategy was an effective one as the record was a massive hit. Over the past few years, Jonathan Davis and Korn have released a number of music albums to huge acclaim. Their latest record to hit the stores was The Serenity of Suffering in 2016. Korn guitarist Brian Welch described it as ‘heavier than anyone’s heard us in a long time.’
Black Labyrinth is the title of Jonathan Davis’ debut solo album. The musician had been hinting at a solo record since he started working without his Korn bandmates and began writing for and touring with his solo band called Jonathan Davis and the SFA. David released two live albums with SFA. These include Alone I Play and Live at the Union Chapel. The band however broke up following guitarist Shane Gibson’s death but Davis continued writing solo material even while he was performing as Korn’s frontman.
In January of 2018, Jonathan Davis finally announced a tour in support of his debut album Lady Labyrinth and the same month he released the album’s first single, What It Is. The album is expected to hit the shelves in May, 2018 and Davis’ headlining tour will have him perform across North America and Europe. The trek kick started with a show in Portland on April 6 and the North American run is scheduled to wrap up in Boston on May 18. Davis will largely be playing at mid-sized theaters for these shows. Joining Davis on the road for this tour on select dates is Palisades.
Davis is extremely excited about his new project and while talking about it he said, “It is something that is very close to me and I'm excited for the world to finally hear it.” So grab Jonathan Davis tickets and join the multi-talented music artist as he brings his first ever solo tour to your city.
