Johnny Winter was born on the 23rd February, 1944 in Beaumont, Texas, America. At a young age, he started to perform with his younger brother. He appeared on television for the first time on a local kids' program named the Don Mahoney and Jeana Claire show. He started his official music career when he was fifteen years of age when he joined a group named Johnny and the Jammers. The band released their first single with Dart Label , which was a recording company in Houston, and named it School Day Blues. The band gained a lot of popularity due to their first single and managed to win several talent shows.

Johnny began to go on tours with different musicians such as the Bobby Blue Band and B. B King. In the year 1968, he created a three-member band with Uncle John Turner as the drummer and Tommy Shannon on the bass. Soon, the band got a contract with the recording label called Columbia and released four superb albums with the label, including his best-selling album ever, Johnny Winter and Live. In the year 1974, Johnny got in touch with a recording label called Blue Sky and ended up releasing four solo albums with the label. The albums became hits immediately and two out of them managed to win Grammy Awards, namely I'm Ready and Hard Again.

In the year 1984, Johnny signed a deal with Alligator Records and released one of his most popular albums, Guitar Slinger. The album peaked at both Cashbox and Billboard charts and got nominated for the Grammy Awards. A year later, Johnny released another album and named it Serious Business. This album was also nominated for the Grammy Awards and literally made 'serious business' for the artist. In the year 1986, he released his third and final Alligator album, which was called Third Degree. Several guest musicians gave performances on this album. In the year 1980, the first ever issue of Guitar World featured him on their cover page as one of the most successful guitarists of the time. In 1988, He became an inductee into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame. Johnny has also performed on the Woodstock Festival, featuring his brother in a couple of performances as well.

Furthermore, Johnny has given performances in various esteemed events including the Chicago Blues Festival, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Warren Haynes X-mas jam, Swedish Rock Fest, and Europe’s Rockpalast. His recent album, titled I'm A Bluesman, has also been nominated for the Grammy Awards. Some other musicians were featured in the album include Scott Spray on the bass, and Paul Nelson on the guitars. Vuto Liuzzi will be joining the band on their latest tours, performing at several different popular venues.
