Hailing from Rochester, New York, John Vallby was born in 1945 to an accomplished violinist named Richard from whom Vallby inherited his love for music. Later, in his teen age he attended McQuaid Jesuit High School where he started learning piano from Catholic instructors. It wasn’t until college that Vallby stepped out into dirty singing which he is most famous for. After finishing his high school, he got enrolled in Middlebury College from where he majored in Philosophy. It was also during the same time that Vietnam War started and Vallby served in the army.
Vallby first started writing his signature bawdy compositions while he was still in college. He wrote few raunchy compositions for his fraternity brothers which are still being heard and sung on many occasions. As a classical pianist, he performed extensively at all the major colleges throughout the country. It didn’t take Vallby long to realize the fact that the demand for pop standards and normal ragtime classics is very limited. The real journey of Dr. Dirty started in 1975 when he accidently discovered his present style while performing at a bar in Buffalo.
Instead of the old piano classics, Vallby started singing filthy songs and sang some three dirty songs that night. Soon he had the audience was won over by him who couldn’t stop laughing till the very last minute. Since then, Vallby hasn’t looked back and has been entertaining his audiences with his lowbrow tunes, nasty parodies of good old Christmas carols, topical numbers on historic events and people and hilariously lewd and crude stuff about sex as well as racial slurs. It was this extensive repertoire of Vallby that earned him the title of Dr. Dirty, a name given to him by his manager.
With his trademark bow tie, Vallby has become a favorite comedian cum musician who spares no one, from democrats to republicans in an effort to make his audience laugh. He has released a total of thirty pop and rock albums over a period of 26 years. Vallby has also produced and composed albums for a number of other artists. Among his most prominent works include the composition of a score for "Nancy Ray Smiggen's Family Tree and the Magic Extravaganza," a short feature.
Apart from his career as a comedian and musician, Vallby finds great pleasure in playing hockey. He is currently living in New York with his family and continues to do his live shows at clubs and colleges. At any time in the year, Vallby will be found touring and doing his uproarious, vulgar and sleazy stuff, laughing and joking along with his audience. When Vallby is on stage, no one is safe from his piano or jokes. Among his most famous songs include "Roll Your Leg Over," "Ya, Ya, Ya (aka Limericks)" and "Barnacle Bill" etc. In 1983, he also starred in "Losin’ It," as a piano player.
John Vallby has got a distinctive ability to talk and make fun about the most gross as well as controversial topics with great finesse and ease. That’s one of the many reasons that Vallby is amongst the biggest names when it comes to dirty comedy.
