Joan Jett And The Blackhearts Schedule 2017-18
Oozing with passion and love for all things rock n roll, Joan Jett is an original rock goddess. Entering the music scene in the late 70s, she was hailed as the “girl Elvis” which is perhaps the biggest honor a musician can receive. Celebrating her 41st anniversary in the music industry, Joan Jett along with her band the Blackhearts has announced a series of concerts all over the US. She’s ready to bring the house down at the Capitol Theatre as a headliner and fans with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts tickets can watch her live at the variety show, “Really Big Show”.
Joan Jett – 80s’ Surprising Success Story
Founder of the influential all-girl rock band, The Runaways, Joan Jett started a new wave in the American music scene. At a time when the industry and especially the rock genre were dominated by men, Jett rose as a powerful force and defined her own rules. She was the first woman to own a record label (Blackheart Records) and when she got the attention of all the men around her that she wasn’t going anywhere, she became the only female musician to own her masters.
A visionary and an innovator, she formed the band The Runaways that also featured Sandy West, Cherie Currie, Jackie Fox and Lita Ford. They remained together for four years and during this time released four albums. The singles “Cherry Bomb”, “Born to Be Bad” and “Queens of Noise” placed them on the map and Joan Jett especially got known as the “girl Elvis”.
After The Runaways parted ways in 1979, Joan Jett embarked on a solo career and produced the classic hard rock numbers, “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Bad Reputation”. Her brand of punk rock established her as a badass singer and Jett’s ingenious sound of a mean rhythm guitar turned her into an international sensation.
Joan Jett & the Blackhearts Produce Good Music, Pure and Simple
In 1981, Joan Jett joined forces with Dougie Needles, Hal B. Selzer and Thommy Price to form Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. They recorded “I Love Rock 'n Roll” the very same year and it was a gut-punch for all those record labels that refused to sign the band. The album reached 2nd spot on the Billboard 200 and along with the title track, other songs like “Crimson and Clover” and “Summertime Blues” also broke through the charts.
Since then Joan Jett & the Blackhearts released ten more albums, and their popularity has been sporadic. Their last album hit the shelves in 2013, titled “Unvarnished”. It made it to the Top 50 on the Billboard 200 and reaffirmed fans faith in her. Musically Jett didn’t reinvent the wheel but she dug deep into personal topics, talking more about life and love than rock n roll, drugs and sex. “Any Weather”, “Make It Back” and “Fragile” are the classics on this album that stand out.
Joan Jett – The Ultimate Road Warrior
With respect to cranking out albums and songs, Joan Jett slowed things down but she’s always been an ardent live performer. A road warrior, she frequently performs in festivals and state fairs, and also plays in casinos and clubs. Her popularity has only grown with time as she continues to pound out riff-heavy rock sound.
Jett has been a warrior in more ways than once, as she’s spent a lifetime challenging expectations and breaking barriers. A fighter, she defied norms to accomplish her historic achievements and yet remains appreciative and humble. In her words, “I’ve had a blessed career. I consider myself so lucky to have been able to do things my own way.”
