The creator of the Jerry Douglas Band is a man who has etched his name in music folklore in the most glorious way possible. Born in 1956, Jerry got hooked to music at a very early age. He started playing the mandolin when he was only five years old. He shifted his focus to dobro six years later. That change in instruments came when he watched one of the most famous names in music, Uncle Josh, playing the instrument. That one show changed his life forever. His father who himself was a bluegrass musician gave Jerry all the support he needed to learn dobro properly.
Jerry Douglas took his first steps in music in his teen years when he became a member of his father's group. His music during those early days was influenced by the kind of music that was the hallmark of Josh Graves. His big break came when his incredible talents were recognized by the Country Gentlemen who saw him play at a festival. They took him under their wings and took him on their road trips. He spent most of his first summer with the group on the road, which provided him with an insight into every aspect of music. Once the tour was done the Country Gentlemen introduced him to the world of creating music by taking him to the recording studio. That was where Jerry started to explore his boundaries as a musician. He spent hours working in the studio and eventually his hard work made him one of the most sought after session musicians in the country. The 1970's saw him working with famous names like Ricky Skaggs, Tony Rice, David Grisman and Doyle Lawson among many others.
Jerry Douglas came out with his debut album Fluxology in 1979 which announced his arrival to the masses in style. The next decade saw him working with Bela Fleck, Peter Rowan and Emmylou Harris. His next album was titled Fluxedo and it came out three years after its predecessor. Jerry followed that up with Under the Wire in 1986. In 1987, two of his recordings Changing Channels and Everything Is Gonna Work Out Fine hit the music stores.
In 1990's, Jerry became a member of the Alison Krauss and Union Station. That collaboration took his reputation to a whole new level. It all started off when they joined hands to work on Forget About It. Legends like Ray Charles have turned to him which just goes to show how highly he is thought off by people who know music inside out.
As a solo artist and as member of the Jerry Douglas Band, he has come up with over a staggering fifteen hundred recordings till yet. On top of that he has won twelve Grammys to solidify his status among the greatest of all time. His creations like Lookout For Hope, The Best Kept Secret, Glide, Jerry Christmas and more recently Traveler have all been huge hits. The gang is coming your way very soon so book your Jerry Douglas Band tickets and catch them live.
