Born in Harper, Kansas, Niemann had a knack for song writing since he was eight years old. Even at such an early age, he wrote quite a few songs and had started performing his own songs by the age of ten. After high school he attended South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, where he made it a point to pursue his passion in local clubs and bars. His first musical instrument was a guitar that his mother had won at a Lawrence concert.
Renowned country legends like Lefty Frizzel, George Strait and Keith Whitley were all a source of inspiration for Niemann. As he was growing up he drew motivation from his idols, quickly learning to play the guitar and taking part in various competitions from a tender age. He was especially fond of the works of celebrated Nashville songwriters, Whitey Shafer, Dean Dillon and Paul Overstreet. Later he would co-write with the same writers that had influenced his work initially. Being an eager singer, Jerrod Niemann had collected a number of compositions that he had recorded throughout high school and college. Therefore, in 1999, he self-released his first album Long Hard Road, while still in college.
After Long Hard Road his second self-released album was Jukebox of Hard Knocks in 2004. However, his first real breakthrough was when he was asked to co-write with Richie Brown for Gareth Brooks. Niemann wrote three singles for Brooks which included the tribute to Chris LeDoux "Good Ride Cowboy". This song was to give Niemann a well-deserved push up the ladder. It went on to become one of the most played country songs of 2005 and eventually earned Broadcast Music Incorporated award for the same reason.
The year 2010 brought Niemann some well-earned luck after a failed attempt to release the album, "Behind This Microphone", in 2006 as the record company shut down. He signed with Arista Nashville’s Sea Gayle division and released his first official album "Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury" which includes the "Lover, Lover", the number one ranking single and "What Do You Want" the top five hit. Lover Lover was an instant hit debuting at number one on the country music U.S charts. The song "What Do You Want" peaked at number four whereas "One More Drinkin’" Song ranked at number thirteen on the U.S billboard charts. In 2012 he released his second album, "Free the Music" which produced the top twenty hit "Shinin' on Me".
He has released music videos for five of his songs till now. Jerrod Niemann also has his own fan club, which goes by the name of "Dehydration Nation". In 2011, Niemann's tour bus caught fire, fortunately no one was hurt. Niemann was unharmed due to the quick action of fellow country singer Lee Brice, who lost no time in alerting everybody to the blaze. The incident did not dampen the artists’ spirits, and he successfully concluded the tour.
If you want to enjoy distinct yet true to its roots country rock, then make sure you catch Niemann on his tour. Jerrod Niemann tickets are hard to get as there are in high demand, so get yours in time.
