About Jeff Daniels
Jeff Daniels was born in Georgia, but moved to Chelsea, Michigan, soon after his birth. He attended the Central Michigan University and started getting involved in their theater program. He also participated in a special Bicentennial Repertory program and gave a performance in The Hot I Baltimore and three other plays. He was invited by Marshall W. Mason to New York to work at the Circle Repertory Theater. Here he performed several shows that led to the development of his stage career.
Jeff Daniels Stage Career
After getting involved in theater from an early age, Daniels performed in a number of productions in New York, on and off Broadway. On Broadway, he was a part of Lanford Wilson’s Redwood Curtain and A.R. Gurney’s The Golden Age. He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for the Best Supporting Actor in Wilson’s Fifth of July. Daniels was also successful off-Broadway. He received another Drama Desk nomination for his role in Wilson’s Lemon Sky and an Obie Award for his appearance in Johnny Got His Gun.
In recent years, Daniels got nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his stellar performance in Blackboard.
Jeff Daniels Film Career
Daniels made his debut in film with Ragtime, in 1981. His next film was an Oscar-winning work called Terms of Endearment, which was considered to be his breakthrough role. He managed to get a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in The Purple Rose of Cairo, directed by Woody Allen. Jonathan Demme’s Something Wild also got him a Golden Globe nomination.
In 1994, Daniels starred along with Jim Carrey in one of his most successful films called Dumb & Dumber. He also appeared alongside Keanu Reeves in the blockbuster thriller, Speed.
His subsequent work in films includes Redwood Curtain, Fly Away Home, 2 Days in the Valley, 101 Dalmations, Pleasantville, Chasing Sleep, Blood Work, The Hours, Escabana in da Moonlight, Looper, Steve Jobs and The Catcher Was a Spy among others.

Daniels appeared in the pilot episode of Breaking Away as a college kid. He also made notable appearances in other television programs such as American Playhouse, No Place Like Home, Saturday Night Live, Frasier, Saturday Night Live, The Goodbye Girl, The Newsroom and the 2017 Godless.
