This veteran artist was born in 1967 in Terrell Texas as Eric Marlon Bishop and was brought up in a strict Baptist background. Foxx used to play the piano and sing in the school choir at a very young age and while he was in university he also studied classical compositions and classical music. Foxx admits that his life was groomed and influenced heavily by his grandmother and still credits her for his success. Initially Foxx did programs on TV namely In Living Color in 1991, a repeated appearance on the famous sitcom comedy Roc and later on he appeared in his own comedy sitcom The Jamie Foxx Show that was aired on WB Network from 1996-2001.
 
The Jamie Foxx Show was a favorite of the audience and it went on for 5 seasons and 100 episodes of this show were aired. The cast included Jamie Foxx as Jamie King, Ellia English as Helen King and Garcella Beauvais as Francesca. This program won Foxx a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 1998 and was nominated for awards like Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 1999.  There were two opening songs for this show and both were perfomed by Foxx. He was also nominated for BET Award for Best Actor –Musical or Comedy for his role as Quincy Watson for the movie Breakin’ All the Rules.
