Hot Tuna is a San Francisco blues and rock band featuring band members Skoota Warner, Jack Casady, Barry Mitterhoff and Jorma Kaukonen. They came together to form a blues rock outfit almost forty years ago. In their early days they were always exploring and discovering the sound of music they wanted to make. A heavy inclination towards rock allowed them to define and refine the sound of the blues genre. Adding more color, dimension and depth to the original sound of blues, they fused their own version into rock. The result was an experimental yet very appealing rocky bues sound that spoke of a retro blues style. The band went into mainstream as Hot Tuna becoming a hot favorite in a matter of months. Hot Tuna was hot then and enjoy a similar yet hotter status even today.They story of Hot Tuna began with finding the perfect blend of rock and blues Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen as school friends shared similar interests. But they did not come together until the Jefferson Airplane happened to both of them. As a part of this band they decided to purse acoustic and wired music performances in a side band Hot Tuna. This side project made a noticeable presence along with Jefferson Airplane acts. Their live sound and experience was mostly unplugged and daring to the core. Covering their favorite and playing their very own creations the band made a groundbreaking opening act in 1969. This opening act was a part of a live concert of Jefferson Airplane and made waves there and then.Hot Tuna’s music was bold, bright and beautiful. More importantly the authenticity of sound and the intrinsic inspiration helped it climb the stairway to stardom. Blues and rock with Hot Tuna meant a lot more than rocky acoustic. The very first statement made by Hot Tuna was a live album Hot Tuna. This compilation became a hit with blues and rock fans and Hot Tuna were in demand for more live shows. The band continued to evolve the sound of their music; tailoring to the trends and demands of fans the band began rocking harder. The seventies opened up great avenues for Hot Tuna with First Pull Up. The follow-up streak of album releases one after the others spawned great hits on charts and on radio waves. Then Pull Down, Burgers, The Phosphorescent Rat, Quah, America's Choice, Hoppkory and Double Dose are signature releases of that time zone. The compilation album and Final Vinyl became a hit presenting the best of Hot Tuna’s music till then. But its release marked a hiatus of five years that ended when the KBC Band teamed with Kaukonen to make Hot Tuna music once again. Within five years the bands members approach and taste in music matured. The releases Splashdown and Historic Live Tuna (1985) were all hard rock to the core and deeply Blues in spirit.The nineties dawned upon Hot Tuna with a new sound. Michael Falzarano’s vocals rejuvenated an overhauled everything about Hot Tuna. Pair a Dice Found a remarkable exhibit of acoustic blues brought the band back into limelight. Hot Tuna was once again a sensation it was and was duly enjoyed by existing and new fans. With Pair a Dice Found the band toured extensively and made great music that was captured by studio, live and compilation albums like Live at Sweetwater Two, In a Can, Classic Hot Tuna Acoustic, Classic Hot Tuna Electric,The Best of Hot Tuna, And Furthermore...and Live At New Orleans House Berkeley, CA 09/69. The 2011 release of the album With Steady as She Goes made headlines as critics call it a real comeback for Hot Tuna. The album is a treat for its offerings and promises much more when it will be played live.
