KBLX-FM radio launched Hot Summer Nights in 2015 with the intent of bringing a quality music festival to various cities in the US. Their initial line-up included L.L. Cool J., Naughty by Nature, Salt-n-Pepa, Bell Biv DeVoe, MC Lyte and Case. This stellar group of artists made the festival an instant success and, since then, it is slowly becoming a fall tradition. Now being brought back for the third time, the line-up is stronger than ever. Here are some details about the artists performing this year;
Ashanti is a best-selling author and a Grammy winning singer-songwriter. She was introduced to the public eye in 2002 with her self-titled debut record, “Ashanti”. This album got her eight Billboard wins and a Grammy for the Best Contemporary R&B Album. Since then, the artist has made a name for herself by collaborating with hit rappers such as Big Pun, Fat Joe and, quite recently, Ja Rule. Hot Summer Nights also expects an Ashanti/Ja Rule duo as the two have recently worked on some singles together (such as ‘Helpless’ for the Hamilton Mix-tape).
The brazen-voiced rapper, Ja Rule, requires little introduction. The rapper’s debut album, “Venni Vetti Vecci” ranked number three on the Billboard 200s right after its release. Since then, Ja Ruler has released several hit singles, including “Always on Time” and “Put it On Me” featuring Ashanti. After lending his voice, songwriting and passion to the Hamilton Mix-tape, Ja Rule’s unique quality as an act has shone through.
Brandy is an actress, model as well as singer who released her first album in 1994. Since then, the artist has released five albums, Humans being the latest out of these. “Humans” in particular has followed a tragic car accident in which her car’s passenger lost his life, and is a raw, personal record.
Mase is a promising up and coming rap artist whose songs depict his Harlem roots and coming of age. At 39, the artist shows a greater depth in his lyrics, which are incredibly personal, and depict the life he is living now with his wife and child. He truly is a force to look out for on this festival.
And last but not the least, Monica is going to be a part of this year’s lineup as well. The Grammy Award winning artist became an instant success by achieving two Billboard number ones within the first year of her musical career. During the early 2000’s she blew away most of her teenage competition in the R&B genre. Trained as a Gospel singer by profession, Monica’s vocals alone are quite impressive. Experience her breathtaking performance and more at the Hot Summer Nights festival this fall.
Critical Acclaim for the Event
KBLX-FM’s Hot Summer Nights are family-friendly events in which some of the biggest names provide maximum entertainment in a safe environment. The shows take place in outdoor venues and run throughout the day and night. Therefore, it seems almost like a picnic, with many individuals hauling their lawn chairs along with them.
The event has been held twice now, and generated a lot of buzz on both occasions. The event’s rotation of artists is particularly commended, as the lineup keeps changing with each passing year. Also, new artists are given as much opportunity to showcase their talent as bigger names. The 2017 lineup holds true to this mix as well. Therefore, Hot Summer Nights also becomes a platform to showcase new talent, and a safe and secure place to enjoy good quality music. To enjoy this music for yourself, purchase Hot Summer Nights tickets for a venue near you before they run out. While some cities’ tickets and dates have been announced, there are many more that are yet to be disclosed.
