Hoodie Allen On The Rise – Learn More About His Success Recipe
One of the very few recording artists who produce music without any label, Hoodie Allen is an independent musician who raps, writes and sings his own lyrics. For a long time he worked at Google as an account executive but his passion for music forced him to leave his job and focus on the art entirely. His single “You Are Not A Robot” went viral, receiving millions of views on YouTube. The UPenn graduate believes in making quality, fun music for the fans and is not interested in making money, which is probably why he hasn’t attached himself to any major label till now.
A social networking king, Hoodie Allen is his own publicist and communicates with the fans through Twitter, Instagram, emails and YouTube. Sometimes he even video chats with them, maintaining that to really connect with the fans all barriers should be removed. Here’s why more and more people are falling in love with Hoodie and his wonderful music:
Good Music – The only reason why Hoodie Allen has managed to win over a huge following and make a place for himself in this competitive industry is due to his superb content. His music, lyrics and compositions are fun, catchy and quippy. Range of styles and emotions can be enjoyed in his songs, and through this diversity he has been able to grow as an artist and at the same time expand his listeners’ base.
Dedication To His Craft – Unlike most rappers and hip-hop artists, Allen refrains from using drugs, partying and smoking weed in his themes. His followers include diverse people because he infuses intelligent pop culture references and talks about things that the listeners can easily relate to. In his mixtapes he sampled with the music by Death Cab For Cutie, The Black Keys and Twin Door Cinema Club, restructuring the different sounds and presenting them with his hip-hop sensibilities. But he also didn’t want to be labeled as an artist who only worked on popular music and made an effort to create his own beats.
Fan Outreach – A humble human being, Hoodie Allen openly admits that all of his fame and success is due to his fans. Calling his supporters “Hoodie Mob”, he has released a lot of free music for them including “Pep Rally”, his breakthrough mixtape. He is quite active on social media and makes it a point to reply to his fans, even if it’s a quick thank you. He was able to build such a rapport with his fans that when his debut record “People Keep Talking” came out and it wasn’t free, they didn’t mind and in fact rushed to the stores to buy it. The same way these fans are rushing for Hoodie Allen tickets for his 2016 Tour. His concerts are an altogether different experience – full of energy, a hip hop show that fans haven’t seen before.
