When the opportunity struck and the ball came loose, Edwards managed to catch it, returning it for touchdown which enabled Eagles to win by 19-17. After Edwards retired from football, he took up the job of defensive assistant in San Jose State University. Later he became defensive backs coach of Kansas City Chiefs and kept the position for four years. During the time he was Jets’ head coach; he made 30-42 record that included a 2-3 record in playoffs as well. Another record was 5-15 stretch in his last twenty seasons. He left the club after four years and in September of 2006 was made the coach of Kansas City Chiefs.
